Relative to other clubs we are having a dream run with injuries. Touch wood. Last year was pretty good also.

Both played Round 1 against Box Hill.

From the VFL report on the Saints website:

Daniel McKenzie (14 disposals, eight contested possessions, six tackles)

“He was solid playing predominantly on a wing. He didn’t get a lot of time inside but he was our best tackler for the game. He was hard at the ball and his closing speeds good. His closing speeds really good, he’s obviously got confidence in his ability to tackle guys and that’s evident in the stats. His defensive efforts have been good. He’s got a good balance of offense and defence; he plays that pretty well from a wing perspective.”

Bailey Rice (14 disposals at 85.7 per cent, two rebound 50s)

“Bailey was a little bit hot and cold from half back. He didn’t really give us a little drive and got caught out defensively a couple of times in his positioning, his opponent got goal side of him so he just needs to work on his checking and positioning. But it was only his proper game at this level, so he’ll be better for the exposure no doubt.”

Off-season recruit Nathan Freeman is also in line to return next weekend following his latest hamstring setback.

The highly regarded midfielder played his only game of 2016 a month ago before the minor issue occurred, but Cox predicted he would return next Saturday after training strongly this week.

“Nathan’s been training well this week,” Cox said.

“He’s probably got another week of training before he’s likely to remerge and play next weekend.”

Round Seven Injury List

Paddy McCartin – Available
Nathan Freeman – 1 week
Dylan Roberton – 1 week

So Freeman went from "indefinite" to 1 week.

In the space of a week.

After missing the last month due to injury, Cox said rebounding defender Dylan Roberton and off-season recruit Nathan Freeman should return this weekend if the pair gets through training on Thursday.

“Dylan Roberton will have a test on Thursday but he’s training really strongly after missing four weeks. But he’s due to come back and be available for selection this week,” Cox said.

“Nathan Freeman is the other one who has trained strongly now for two to three weeks.

“All going well, if he gets through training again on Thursday he’s also available for selection this week. He is likely to come back through the Sandringham development squad.”

St Kilda Injury List 10/5/16

Jack Sinclair (corked calf) test
David Armitage (concussion) test
Billy Longer (concussion) test
Dylan Roberton (medial ligament) test
Nathan Freeman (hamstring) available

“Sam Fisher has to get through training this week, but it looks like he’ll be available for selection this week against the Bombers.”

Cox revealed young midfielder Nathan Freeman will enter a conditioning phase for the next fortnight after making a successful comeback with Sandringham’s development team on the weekend, before returning after the bye
.

http://www.saints.com.au/news/2016-05-1 ... n-recovery
It was only a few years ago when Sam Fisher’s career lingered at the crossroads. With his hamstrings repeatedly failing him, the end loomed on the horizon.

Now, he is helping young St Kilda recruit Nathan Freeman deal with a similar issue; a player whose career has been plagued by hamstring trouble.

Since being drafted inside the top-ten of the 2013 National Draft, Freeman has been hampered by persistent issues with his hamstring, initially at Collingwood before he crossed to the Saints at the end of last season.

The explosive midfielder made a comeback with Sandringham’s development side last weekend, but will be kept on a tight leash this year as the Saints hope to eradicate the issue once and for all.

“He’s had some hammy issues like myself, they were very similar actually. So I’ve had a bit to do with Nathan in that sense,” Fisher told Melbourne radio station RSN on Wednesday.

“I’ve told him to stay positive, and told him I got over it. I’ve tried to instil a bit of belief into him like that.

post Round 10 Update
http://www.saints.com.au/news/2016-05-3 ... t-round-11

struggle for others to get into the team
“Our injury list remains pretty strong. We look like having a full list to pick from this week. So it’s good news, we should have a pretty full list to pick from to go to Adelaide this week,” Cox told saints.com.au on Tuesday night.

Cox confirmed that Webster has recovered from the virus that forced him to miss the clash with the Dockers, whilst Billings trained well on Tuesday, but will need to prove his fitness on Thursday before being declared fit.

“News really from last week, Jimmy Webster missed with illness he was a reasonably late withdrawal given he was sick from Thursday and he didn’t quite get up for the game. He’ll be okay to pick from for this week,” Cox said.

“Jack Billings was the other one who tried really hard to get up for last week’s game. He didn’t get there in the end, so had the week off.

especially with VFL fixture meaning they get little chance to press their case.

Club website says regulation hamstring copped late in today's session and will miss 4-5 weeks.

Bloody bugger. He's been going beautifully this year. Fully fit for the first time in years.

Time for the babies to step up and seize the opportunity.

St Kilda key defender Hugh Goddard successfully underwent surgery to repair his ruptured Achilles tendon on Thursday night.

The highly-rated 19-year-old suffered the injury in the Saints loss to the Crows at Adelaide Oval last Sunday night and is set to miss the remainder of the 2016 season.

After playing the final eight games of his debut season last year, Goddard made his first appearance of 2016 against the Crows. But his season was brought to a devastating end just before half time when his foot gave way in an innocuous incident.

St Kilda GM - Football Performance Jamie Cox said Goddard’s surgery went according to plan on Thursday night, plotting the first milestone in what is set to be a long comeback for the 2014 first round pick.

“Hughie’s surgery went to plan, with the surgeon happy with the procedure,” Cox told saints.com.au on Friday afternoon.

not the official list
but ours still looks better than many others
ST KILDA

INJURIES

Sean Dempster (knee) 2 weeks

Sam Fisher (hamstring) 2 weeks

Nathan Freeman (hamstring) indefinite

Hugh Goddard (Achilles) season

Tom Lee (knee) test

Billy Longer (concussion) 2 weeks

Paddy McCartin (concussion/neck) test

ON THE BLOCK: Tom Lee hurt his knee before the bye and could be in some doubt. First-gamer Lewis Pearce, a ruck/forward, kicked a goal and had 10 hit-outs on debut but may have to make way with Nick Riewoldt and Paddy McCartin likely to return after the break.

ON THE CUSP: Riewoldt and McCartin straight back in the side. Jacks Lonie and Sinclair not without a chance having combined for seven goals in the VFL a fortnight ago.

GILBERT GARDINER’S FORECAST: Last time they played Geelong — Round 21, 2015 — it was a draw but surely that’s a bridge too far for the young Saints given the Cats’ hot mid-season form. Despite pushing the Roos and Hawks earlier in the year, the best the Saints can hope for here is Geelong rests Selwood-Dangerfield-Hawkins-Bartel and they don’t get blown out of the water after a stirring win over Carlton before the bye.
