List vacancies
Does anyone know how many list spots we currently have available - both senior and rookie?
With McCartin now being delisted, does that suggest we might have an eye on a delisted FA and if so, who could we be after?

Re: List vacancies
I reckon taking Bennell is a no-brainer. His body is close to right (if not completely OK) and he would have a good stable atmosphere around him at the Saints.SaintJohn1956 wrote: ↑Mon 28 Oct 2019 10:57am Would it be worth giving Bennell or Sam Murray a chance?

Re: List vacancies
11 senior list and 1 rookie have been delisted/retired/traded. (including Paddy)
5 senior players added so far.
I think Joyce will need to be upgraded. Wilkie may also be upgraded.
That would leave 4 senior list and 3 rookie list vacancies.
I think we have 3 National Draft selections at this stage?

Both good enough to play AFL but both have had issues.SaintJohn1956 wrote: ↑Mon 28 Oct 2019 10:57am Would it be worth giving Bennell or Sam Murray a chance?
Murray would be up against Geary, Savage, Webster, Paton, Clarke & Coffield. Probably not what we need.
Bennell would be against Gresham, Billings, Lonie, Kent, Parker, Butler, Long & Hind as a high forward, doubt he’s a mid now. He’d be an upgrade on Kent, Lonie, Parker, Hind if fit and mentally switched on.
If fit and switched on both are better than many on our list at the moment.

Re: List vacancies
My reading of the situation was that we were three over the limit due to inclusions during the year (Rowe, Marsh and Mayo).Beno88 wrote: ↑Mon 28 Oct 2019 11:29am 11 senior list and 1 rookie have been delisted/retired/traded. (including Paddy)

So I think with the delisting of Paddy we have 3 Senior list spots and 1 rookie list spot. The mix could change if we upgrade a rookie (eg. Wilkie).

Re: List vacancies
My understanding is that Joyce can only remain a rookie after being a rookie for 3 years if he survives the National draft.Beno88 wrote: ↑Mon 28 Oct 2019 11:29am 11 senior list and 1 rookie have been delisted/retired/traded. (including Paddy)

IF no other club takes him then he can be relisted as a rookie.
He has a contract with St Kilda until the end of 2021.
Alternately St Kilda can upgrade him to the senior list leaving behind a rookie vacancy.

Marsh and Rowe went on the senior list but Mayo went on the rookie list.on the outer wrote: ↑Mon 28 Oct 2019 2:24pmMy reading of the situation was that we were three over the limit due to inclusions during the year (Rowe, Marsh and Mayo).Beno88 wrote: ↑Mon 28 Oct 2019 11:29am 11 senior list and 1 rookie have been delisted/retired/traded. So I think with the delisting of Paddy we have 3 Senior list spots and 1 rookie list spot. The mix could change if we upgrade a rookie (eg. Wilkie).
We started the year with 40 senior players 4 rookie A and 1 rookie B plus 2 rookie B vacancies.
Marsh and Rowe increased the seniors to 42 and Mayo the rookie A to 5.
We must reduce the number of seniors to 37 thus allowing 3 places for rookie upgrades or national draft picks and the rookie A to 4.
We have added 5 seniors via trade Butler, Hill, Howard, Jones & Ryder = 47 seniors
We have lost 11 seniors = Acres, Armitage, Bruce, Longer, McCartin, Newnes, Rice, Rowe, Steven, White & Young = 36 seniors
We have lost 1 rookie A = Pierce = 4 rookie A
Consequently there are 4 vacancies
At present these are all senior vacancies but up to 4 rookies in theory could be upgraded leaving no national draft picks.
Draft picks 51, 82, 100 & 118 have been activated.
These will become deactivated for each rookie upgraded thus converting a national draft pick into a rookie pick.
These would be 5, 23, 41, 59 but each only activated by rookie upgrade.
If Joyce is not upgraded he must go into the National draft but if not taken he would be relisted by StKilda as a rookie A ahead of the rookie draft to fill out his remaining two year contract.
We will still have 2 rookie B vacancies.
The club could fill one but only one of the senior vacancies with a delisted free agent, and reducing the number of senior draft picks by one.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
