To me its obvious, Roma is already better than Gawn. Gawn is a whiny soft hipster.

Bumped into Max at the G in a members bar at lunch during the Boxing Day test. Collegue asked him jokingly if his mum made him wear the Kiwi team shirt he was sporting.. the loser was blatantly NOT amused !!

Yeah, he appears to take himself far too seriously. I also reckon he'd be a real mommy's boy.

He only came in (if in fact he did) because Gawn did his knee. Not because he's better at this stage.

I knew Gawn was injured, but personally I'd pick Roma ahead of Gawn regardless.

Completely agree. We don't need anyone getting injured in a rubbish exhibition game. SOO well and truly run its race 25 years ago. Players a re fully professional and have nothing to prove in February. If he is picked, fake a hammy Roma

So Maxi’s too precious to risk in the bushfire game, hey?

I hope our guys play if picked and I’ll bet they want to.

It’s a worthy cause. Yes, injury is always a concern but I’m fatalistic about them. If they’re going to happen they’re going to happen.

So - am I wrong:

Morwell - Saints v Hawks - 28th
State of Origin - 28th

I would expect all Saints players to be in Morwell

Of course not. But that's playing for St Kilda in a match to further our cause, practice our setups, massage our structures and cohesion with other team mates.

Not saying it isn't a worthy cause, but footy is a full body contact sport. These are fully professional athletes who aren't paid by the league but by the clubs. If Marshall plays and dominates, who cares? League would have felt pressure to take part in some way with most other major sporting codes doing something. But footy isn't like cricket and netball and basketball etc. The chance of injury is far higher. Donate $5mill from the league coffers and move on.

If we must play a game(s) to raise money then dedicate a round twds it and take proceeds out of that. They have every other cause covered, this is as good as any.

All true - but I daresay some players actually want to feel they're donating something - like the tennis players paying out when they play an ace. It's a gesture and acknowledgement of how trivial a game of footy is in comparison with real-world suffering. In your version of donation towards the cause, the players get to give nothing. In fact, I'd suggest the gesture we'd be giving would be precisely the wrong one!

Playing representative football at any level is always a great experience for a player. The environment is very different and you can learn a lot. Imagine Roma working out plays with the best mids in the comp. What a learning curve both personally and for the club.
