Paradise Lost : The Saints and Moorabbin

Post: # 1839039Post st.byron »

From this morning’s Age :

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/par ... 53zg6.html

“Next week, Moorabbin will be packed for the second time in a matter of 11 days when St Kilda host the Hawks in an AFL pre-season practice game on a Thursday evening.

The Saints are already looking at measures that will allow 10,000 people in to a ground that once accommodated 30,000-plus – and drew an unthinkable 51,000 to the first game there in 1965. Sunday's AFLW opener was full at little more than 8000.”

I was lucky enough to be a little kid who could squeeze my way down to the fence next to the Collingwood coach's box. Scores were level entering time on when Alan Morrow marked and kicked truly from the forward pocket. The road from the Saints supporters was deafening. That game started a period of great rivalry between the two clubs.

If they are predicting a capacity crowd of 10.000 people, packed in to RSEA Park like sardines, then i think i'll watch it at home, on my expensive FOXTEL Sports Package.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

A capacity crowd of 10,000 won’t be squashed like the good old days. OH&S prevents that.

The “lockout” with 8,000 last Sunday looked at best 60% full, given how many people were sitting down and the space around each person.

its all about the facilities and the capacity
we could always go back to the urine quagmire toilets near the score board end during the 70/80s

When’s the last time we saw players positioned like that on an AFL field when the ball is at the other end of the ground?

Moorabbin will never host men's games for premiership points again.
Is that definite and if so could anyone tell me why it's an impossibility?

This was my father's belief
And this is also mine:
Let the corn be all one sheaf--
And the grapes be all one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.

I was there as a kid, Sun.

I remember finally getting to the front to the urinal and standing next to another guy. Next thing we know there was a stream coming between us. The guy behind said "Don't move you guys". I closed my eyes and just concentrated.

I remember Filth Park. They use to just piss in their beer cans. You know, those really big cans they stopped making last century.
