Room in the cap....

We have room in our cap: Saints hint another 'trade raid' is coming - https://www.afl.com.au/news/478162

Will be interesting to read the views regarding this. Should be interesting reading!

Would be nice but how? Pick 5, young gun with contract till 2022. We don't have the trade collateral.

It depends on what we get from Gold Coast for Max King.

Need to look at the assets we have to see what we can get. We have a first round draft pick, Cap Space and a list that should play finals over the next few years. Anyone we would put up for trade would likely not get us what we need coming back. Sooo, Free agents are one possibility, of which Crouch and Viney (inside mids) be the pick of.
Our first pick would only be used for a Caldwell type i think.
Perhaps look for a Bryce Gibbs scenario, where we take a player to help someone else with Salary cap issues in return for a player we want.

Please put all our eggs into the Josh Kelly basket, front end / rear end whatever contracts to make that work and then keep our powder dry until Ben King has to make a decision in 2022 or 2023.

That said, last year's trade period has given me a lot of confidence that we finally have the right people at the club to trade & draft.

Who can we Moneyball? Do we need a superstar? Always nice but if we can add 2 more good players for the price of a superstar then I'd take it. Marshall, Clark and Co aren't going to be on small change forever so we need to be smart, not seduced by wanting a messiah. Saints have gone down that road too many times.

It's not about a messiah, I totally agree that we've been down that poisoned path too many times. If none of Barks, Plugger, Sir Robert H, Rooey & that knight, Hayes were the messiah, it is the fact we need an absolute jet of a midfielder (position vacant) and reconnect the embryo to complete the puzzle & deliver that chalice.

What ever we are paying for Jack Steven's contract with Geelong will eventually become space under our salary cap.

I reckon Ben King is going to ask to come back to victoria.
And we will offer up our P1 and a player to get him.

We need a Jet. I dont know if Kelly is it, but he'd be pretty close.

Quite seriously the way it is looking we might be able to pay our way to a few years in the top four.

Seems reasonable but I would like some shiny steak knives as well.
Maybe Noah Anderson to cut my meat.

Ben King and Jack Lukosius were refusing to extend there original two year contracts.
Clearly both were wanting to head back to their home states.
Gold Coast wanted to lock them in a year early, extending their contracts by 2 years until end 2022.

Then the AFL stepped in gave them both an ambassador bonus paid by the AFL outside the salary cap.
Of course the AFL did absolutely nothing when Richmond wanted Tom Lynch.
Richmond have so many more supporters than St Kilda so are of greater value to the AFL.
St Kilda is tolerated to make up the numbers.

Matty might be getting ahead of himself, he's talking old salary cap, how much space does he have with the new salary cap. I think that article is more about Matty sending a message to player managers who are managing players currently on the list.

Yep, Matty wouldn’t be across the implications of any potential changes the AFL could be making to salary cap.

And he needs to send a public message to player managers who are obviously equally uniformed.

Lucky we have you and your inside knowledge to keep us level and informed on how the club management operate 👍

Your arrogance, self absorbed nature, combined with a ridiculously inate ability to talk down to posters with reckless ignorance, can't allow you to comprehend that more than one person can't suffer you.

Hard to believe one poster can chew through so many usernames. You're the Dale Kickett of Saintsational.

It's all relative SK. If we have the space to offer more to a player, whether minus the Covid discount or not, we will still be offering more. I'd imagine while everyone has had the payments cut, for goodness who knows how long, more is a damn good incentive. That and finals.

Have to agree with you Secret Karen.

We appear to share an intolerance to dickheads, people of below average comprehension, fake inside knowledge spinners, doomsdayers, moral outrage extremists and *fabricators of the truth.
