Saints likely to play Eagles in Queensland

Post: # 1858916Post Sanctorum »

According to a report in today's media:

"West Coast, which has a game in hand on key rivals for a top four slot, host Hawthorn and the Giants over the next fortnight before another potential stint in a hub in Queensland."

This confirms my calculations posted elsewhere that with Hawthorn and Giants heading to Perth, it was unlikely that St Kilda would be sent to Perth, enduring a 2 week quarantine, to play just one game.

Congratulations to the AFL for getting the fixturing right, WCE have so far been unbeatable at home this year.

Yeah looking at the year so far it appeared West Coast have nearly played their allotment of home games, so was hoping we wouldn't have to travel to face them.

And yesterday they didn't look as dominant as I was thinking, Carlton could have won that game, so we could be a real chance if it's at the Gabba :)

22 playing 25. Makes it a bit hard to win.

From Heraldsun.com.au

"The confusion around the new interpretation of holding the ball was best captured during the opening quarter of Sunday’s clash.

After several instances where the umpires chose to throw the ball up rather than reward the tackler, Sam Petrevski-Seton fell victim to the new interpretation being policed with arguably too much vigour.

No sooner had he taken possession, he was jumped on by Jack Darling in a perfect tackle that pinned the young Blue’s arms and left him unable to move, let alone attempt to dispose of the ball.

The Blues protested umpire Nathan Williamson’s decision and a 50m penalty was awarded, gifting Darling a certain goal.

The argument that Petrevski-Seton should have made an attempt to dispose of the ball doesn’t hold up when he was enveloped by the 95kg Darling."

Hope we avoid WA. We did Adelaide twice. Would only be fair and if we have playing away for weeks now really.

Playing the Wet Toast in Cairns or Gabba means we might get a better run from the maggots, no crowd noise

the afl have stuffed this up. round 15 is the earliest we'll get a bye. in a 17 game season? really disadvantaged some teams.

I think that AFL have done an outstanding job this season to get a season of football in at all.
When you think of all the stakeholders invovled with their demands and limitations, it's a credit to everyone involved.

I think we'd all rather be watching and talking about football than not.

Goodish news after some terrible news! Early bids from the peanut gallery: two ruck selection (say Paddy and Abbott) to try to reduce Nic Nat's influence and lets try to exploit Hurn's noticable lack of pace this season, and do not - yes do not - kick high to areas patrolled by Barrass and Shepard. (Also be careful of Kennedy's flapping arms in a pack; its his give us a ball decision ump charade move. Looks like a demented swan lake extra.) Just asking.

Fremantle and Sydney will see out the end of the home-and-away season in Cairns. The AFL confirmed on Wednesday that the Dockers and Swans would be the two clubs to relocate to far north Queensland between rounds 15 and 18.
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/doc ... 20and%2018.

So you would also expect WCE to relocate to Qld for the season's end.

This then sets things up for all finals to be played in Qld, or Qld and SA. WA with their current 14 day quarantine requirement is not feasible for finals.

As I posted in the other thread we have already played Freo and we also do not really have another team to go to WA with which would mean only 1 game in the minim 15 day period. So the most logical option is for WCE to play us outside of WA.

For WCE to play all remaining games in WA would also give them an unfair advantage. So they need to play games outside of WA.

You don't get a bye against a team.
A bye is where you don't play anyone.
There are 18 rounds, one round you don't play anyone called - a bye
But you still have to play everyone of the other 17 teams once either at "home" or "away".
Perth, Fremantle, Adelaide and Port Adelaide now have the advantage that they are playing their home games at their real home grounds in front of a home crowd that provides positive affirmation for poor umpiring decisions.

Totally ridiculous that we have to wait until round 18 before a break.

Very unfair.

Saw in the paper this morning that the Hawks are going to use the rest of the season for development to blood and give younger players experience.

It doesn't mean that we will get the four points handed to us on a plate, but it makes it a helluva more likely of a win.

That makes sense and if St Kilda was in the same position you would expect that they would likewise use the remaining fixtures to see what the 2nd ranked players can bring to the table for 2021.

Or how to tank for better draft choices without it being called tanking.

If the Hawks played a lot of their youth they would most likely be dreadful as their youth is probably the worst in the AFL.

They may go for a milder approach of playing a number in batches.

The Hawks have played 4 of the 5 other bottom teams apart from the Crows, and so finishing second last is very achieve bale by the Hawks with a bit of selection, and perhaps even without playing "youth"..

I wonder why. Do the Hawks want it as a "home" game for them?

They play Port there in 22 Aug, and are yet to play the Crows.

If there at least the Saints have played their twice.

I am not so sure about their youth being that bad. Box Hill go alright every season. But our seniors would certainly beat Box Hill.

We pretty much had a bye last Monday - from quarter time.
Except without the benefit of a rest.
