Can we trade Hill?

Post: # 1903704Post Waltzing St Kilda »

Another three years at a rebuilding club isn't going to do him or the club any favours.

Granted we'd need to continue paying a chunk of his salary but would another club in serious contention be interested in taking him on?

I wouldn't trust Gags and his sidekicks to do anything worthwhile at trade time, look at what his handiwork has done for us so far.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Really?

I was referring to trading players rather than picks.

We are usually on the wrong side of the ledger,
but I think people are negatively exaggerating our trading in the last couple of years.

Ryder, Jones, Howard, Crouch, Butler, Higgins all good trades.

McKernan, Hunter and Wood look like busts

But didn't cost much in picks.

Those 3 cost nothing. In actual fact none have covered what we cut.

Our trading hurts when we throw in bonuses we never needed to...an added trade for Hannebery & Acres for the Hill deal. Both are pure incompetence, showing we always blink first.

The pick 58 we got from Geelong for Jack Steven was way overs (in hindsight)

We’d get stuck paying 3/4 of his salary, so we’ll just have to suck this one up just like Hannebery’s deal.

Although hopefully Hannebery is a proud man and is willing to retire and he and the club can agree to a reasonable pay out figure.

Gags, Libba and Lethlean can come play Holdem at my place anytime they like.

We would get very little for Hill except a massive bill for a good portion of his pay cheque

He is a good player in a good team so he will struggle in our current situation IMO

Rolls Royce skills in a Zeta team. Used to playing in tough teams where he didn't have to tackle just receive and deliver lace out. Perhaps Dogs is best fit at the moment.

I would think he is just as disappointed in the Saints as fans are with him. Might jump at the chance to get away from constant disrespect and abuse. Recruiters really did not get us the appropriate technology when they convinced him to join us.

Still can be a mighty contributor if team can get its act together, BIG IF. I bet he hasn't experienced floggings like we are copping this year - maybe one under super coach Ross - now he knows how the other half of the ladder lives and how unforgiving it can be.

And what exactly is 'Saints footy'? I would suggest he's fitting right in at the moment. Not sure we're in a position to be derisive of any club atm, including GC. That's how low we've sunk.

At the moment we seem to be pushing sh#t up Hill.

Why did he play so well at Freo?

Won a B&F was runner up in another, averaged 25 possessions and was rated in the best few wingman in the AFL

Along with being good enough to be an important part of one of best teams in recent history..

And now he’s in his prime!

What has happened??

He has been so poor, he has needed to be moved to HB to try and get a kick!!! And now that isn’t even working!

Question is, what has changed between Freo and StK

Are we wanting him to be something he’s not?!

He’s not an inside contested ball winner, he’s an outside runner with foot skills, why can’t we utilise that??

Way too early to call the Hill trade a bust. I have hope. And we need that kind of class.

Good point.
He plays like someone caught between doing what he is naturally good at, and doing what the coach has told him to do
As a result you get good days (yes he has had a few) and some shockers

My mate in WA says Hill got a lot more involved in the play at Freo, and ran a lot harder than he sees at the Saints

You can't just bring players into the team and tell them to do what they were doing before! Before they were part of a structure that made use of their abilities. Now, they're working for "have a go, joe" "do your thing, bing" Ratten. Same applies to the lot of em. Who of the blow-ins has continued to shine? Paddy. Why? Because you can't bugger up where he's playing or what he's supposed to be trying to do.

Yeah we'll trade Hill, pay most of hi s salary and watch him help that team to a premiership. Sounds like the St.Kilda thing to do.
