Really impressed with him. A no fuss defender who is a true moneyball pick. Elite in rebounds and it showed.

Can clear congestion and get the ball out quickly either to a contest or a safe player even outside d50.

And in true AFL fashion, his photo on the AFL site is in Port colours.

He has done well but I still would play Highmore ahead of him.

I wouldn’t. Highmore will just have to work his way back in.

Sometimes things just break your way.

Having the height of a defensive player as the Medical Sub assisted when Battle was called upon to ruck.

I agree that Lienert is a handy addition to our List, and with injuries to our first choice defenders giving him the opportunity, is performing well.

Remember he was omitted from the 22 which played GCS.

They might get to play together in our SA backline next week because I have a feeling Ben Long might be missing (just my feeling, because my "sauces" haven't told me anything). Lienert is a different type of player to Highmore, more like Wilkie and more composed. I felt he was a bit off against the Suns and wasn't surprised when he was dropped but he immediately impacted when he came on last night. Another great pick up.

GWS coach says no injuries, so hopefully Ben will be okay. But then he is Ben AND the AFL being the pricks they are, who really knows

Lienert needs to be dropped for Highmore, Winhager for Jones, Hayes for Ryder and Wanganeen-Milera for Perris

They normally release the mrp findings within 24 hours after the game these days, so if we haven’t heard anything yet, I don’t think we will.

No doubt Paddy will replace the injured Jack Hayes.

I thought that Marcus Windhager had his best game so far on Friday night - his second - he's a quick learner. I was most impressed with his abilty to know where to run to. I can remember that David Armitage took years to learn that and never really got the hang of it, so he concentrated on being an inside player only. Jack Steven found space so that he could run around in circles and then kick it straight to the opposition. Marcus Windhager having just played his second game, he is somewhat more advanced than those two. As is Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera after 5 games (really 4). He's going to be a real champ, with that "flair" that can't be learnt. But they are just 18 and 19 respectively. Minor injuries can affect performance for young players. I note that Marcus had a back injury prior to the draft, which perhaps accounts for his relatively "high" pick at No 47.

As far as Perris is concerned, I know nothing about him, but I note that his first name is Jack, which should almost guarantee him a game.

Why would we make 4 changes to a team that has won 5 in a row? The changes will be kept to a minimum. Changes for injury and bringing back seasoned stars is one thing, but bringing in speculative rookies is another.

I said to Sianter_Boy when Windhager passed the ball - it was flat and accurate. Nasiah possibly even better!

Lienert has been another surprise of 2022. He had 16 disposals coming on after 1/4 time which is a pretty fair effort, plus his kicking is a real weapon as he gets the extra 10 metres with his kicks.

Playing against his old mob next if he gets picked. Some players really 'bounce' against their old mob. Somehow. I don't think he'll be any different
, which is fine, but it might just influence the selectors to include him.

Peris for Nasiah

Peris is average in the VFL

Why would he get promoted?

Jones - not sure
Ryder obviously in

Does structure over ride player position. Can we rest Marshall?
Do we retain Lienert and bring in Paddy.
Have Battle go forward in a Hayes type role and Paddy rests forward? Does Highmore get a chance.
These tall/mobile/versatile/skillful half backs are coming in handy.
Makes it hard for a natural forward like Sharman to get a crack.

Boris Enright has the backline working like a dream.
Moving Battle forward would be like removing The Edge (guitarist) from U2 and getting him to play with Green Day.
You don't break up the band

Battle, Wilkie, Lienert cover for Howard's deficiencies.
And he has some.
As a combination, the backline is settled and is in sync.

I wonder what settled means here.

The player-roles have been settled? Are they following a plan or do you mean the actual personality mix?

And on what basis?
We haven't been making wholesale changes in mid-game?

I think winning makes them look 'settled' more than anything. The Collingwood game caused major messin'.

I think Hill is more effective on an arc across wing, slightly defensive of centre and back to the other wing...like an giant elastic band fastened to each wing, if you get my drift. Then, on the other hand, if he rests forward gets five possessions but ties up a heap of attention of the oppo then maybe it is a good sacrifice?

Sincs has gone mid. Paton? Well, he looks OK ish I suppose. What do you think of Patto so far? Great player.. Long has been in and out of the backline. Wilkie and Howard have been servicable as usual...

Long seems to be poppin up all over the place, but he does have a nice field kick on him I have noticed.

Battle has been great by the looks, but will he stay?

I think it is more fluid, and I think the structure may be settled when we are winning.

Port have a few outs so..maybe their last chance to really dominate as a back six before the Melb-Geelong-Adelaide triple treat.

It seems to me that the 3rd tallish defender ranking goes 1) Webster, 2) Lienert, 3) Highmore... The biggin list goes 1) Howard and then a long way back, joyce. and the smaller linking back being Sincs and then Paton, although they seem like such different players.

You wonder how we would match up defensively against Melbourne. That guy with the JFK hairdo seems like he would be a handful.

Peris is a long way off seniors.

He is currently learning the game by being played as a small defender.
