Acres returning to Victoria?

Post: # 1978000Post D.B.Cooper »

Potential home at Carlton according to Herald Sun.
On a wage around $300k.

Hypothetically:
Hill leaves to North for pick #50 and we pay $300k of his wage.

Acres comes to Carlton for trade peanuts at around the value to what we are paying Hill to play for North.

Not mentioning the draft bevy we handed the Dockers.

It’s just SO St Kilda, should it happen.

Re Dockers.
I wonder if we have interest in Darcy Tucker?
I believe he was a player we were interested in a couple of seasons ago.

If pick 50 is all we get for Hill North pays ALL his salary or better still don’t do the deal!

100% why do the deal
Back Hayes in to turn him around
He leaves for a shuffle of picks at the top end or he stays
He gets tagged most weeks, that’s how valuable other teams see him

You should give up on hypotheticals.

Keep Hill unless we benefit from the trade significantly.

He played alot of good games for us, and yes, hopefully Lenny gets better efforts from him for contested ball.

You can't look Lenny in the face after a squib.

End of first round compo pick and the deal is on

So Freo ambivalent about Blake;
Carlton swapping him for Jack Newnes?
Seems a reasonable call, although there is a good chance Blake would have missed the tackle on Pickett and dropped the mark Jack did.
And Blake has not kicked a match winning goal as far as I can recall.
Not sure where Blake could slot into our side but he did improve under Longmuir. Good luck to him.

We will muck this trade period up because we are going to panic

It will be 2012-2013 all over again

Other clubs will be the beneficiaries of our incompetence- again

Whether it be

Hill, Gresham, Clark, Billings, Bytel

Any of those has upside and will walk into another club and make them better

Just like Nick Hind did

Feels like that, plus DeGoey won't come

The only player I have read in the media as potentially requesting a trade is Hill.
Is there anything definitive on the others highlighted wanting out?

I don't believe Bytel has any trade currency, couldn't get a game in a poor midfield, but hope we don't sell the others off cheaply.

Stanley, Dal Santo, Goddard, Mc Evoy were all traded (left to FA) and fair to state we did not benefit greatly from the experience.

Tell me St Kilda would not do that type of deal if Hill wants out?

I'm not suggesting it is a reasonable deal, or adequate compensation, I'm merely suggesting it's the Saints.

I wouldn’t say he couldn’t get a game. Rather he didn’t get a game despite his form.

He really should have played the 3 games (and I use the whole numbers loosely here) that Hannebery played.

Not for a player with two years to run on a contract.

How come Hannas already had already been filed in the Exit bin, but still gets 3 games? (Now does anyone assume Hannas wasn’t told he was ‘retiring’?)
Even then, they still don’t play Bytel!
I have asked where Bytel’s game is lacking, and nothing sticks out - so I assume he just isn’t that flash, or lacks a yard, or his exit papers are marked, and they want him to know it! They figure he is going to another club?

Yeah .... cause Nick Hind really elevated the Dopers to Top 4 Finals contenders ..... I mean what a player ... should be in contention for the Brownlow

We virtually gave Acres away and now Freo are doing the same thing .... wonder what the issue is?

Doesn't come across as a d**khead ..... but hey who knows

Maybe he's just not as good as others in the team.
He's not a match winner. Just a handy back-up midfielder. Dime a dozen.

Didn’t Freo demand that he be part of the Hill trade and now appear to have no strong interest in keeping him?

Pretty harsh particularly after the season he has had.

You'd have to think that they may know he is leaving so didn't play him...as you are spot on, why play Hannas who is exiting (retiring) while Bytel doesn't get 1 start for the year. Strange but may make sense in hindsight after the trade period !

For me… the issue here is more about the essence of good trading.

You want to pay unders for good talent
Charge overs for minimal loss
And correctly identify who you want to keep over who

It feels to me that as of late… we’ve not done that well in most of these regards

We paid a bucketload for Hill who hasn’t lived up to the hype
We gave up Hind and Acres for peanuts… both have become too 22 where they went
The forward pockets we kept over Hind have been delisted… and one has to wonder whether whether in hindsight, don’t get Hill, move Hind to the half back flank, draft one of those good players that were available at that pick… and throw the war chest at someone else.

Seems like we’d have been better off

Regardless… It seems to me that we’re not good deal makers

The conversation about Brad H seems highly coloured by what his price was, and the expectations attached to that sort of money.
If he came at half would he even be raised as someone to trade.
He would be considered a good asset, yes?
He is class in a mediocre side.
Why would you want to trade class.
Especially when the money has been spent.
Sell him, lose money and a good player (say one better than NWM right now? And we are not thinking of trading him - or are we ); you know cut off nose to spite face.
The only reason to consider letting Brad go is if he sincerely says there are irreconcilable differences. And then I think any divorce would not be down to us and the property settlement needs to be well in our favour.

Personally I wouldn’t trade him… I reckon he’s harshly marked here. That said… I reckon it was a ridiculous trade. Came across as what realtors call ‘the desperate buyer’
