The Northern Knights were stoked to bring Anthony Caminiti into their program this year, and it was easy to easy why after his five-goal NAB League debut in May. The athletic key forward slotted into Northern's front six when Carey Grammar had a bye during the APS season, and did enough over both competitions to that point to be a late inclusion in June's Victorian representative trials. With more promising form, he earned a draft combine invite and looms as a tall prospect with high upside among this year's cohort.

Caminiti was a difficult player to deny given his goalkicking record in the APS competition, and he took full toll once given an opportunity in the NAB League. His five-goal debut for Northern stamped his status as a consistent scoring option, having strung together several multiple-goal games for Carey Grammar. At APS season's end, he was named in the competition's Merit Team for 2021.

As a mobile type of tall talent, Caminiti is quick off the mark and constantly gets separation on the lead. His mix of athleticism and smarts makes for some really promising attacking play, as Caminiti reacts first to the flow of play and can begin moving into the right space before the kicker makes a decision. With good delivery, he can be really dangerous.

The other factor on the end of Caminiti's leading patterns is his overhead marking. He showed many times when operating as a lead-up option further afield for Northern, that he could reach higher than his opponents and cleanly clunk aerial balls. With a bit more strength and size on his 83kg frame, Caminiti could even clunk more contested marks while AFL-level defenders match him for athleticism and smarts.

Caminiti's clean hands extend further than his marking too. With good movement for his size, the 196cm talent is comfortable on the ball and looks to move it on quickly to runners passing by. He is able to contribute at ground level with composure and often proves quite unselfish inside 50, creating opportunities for others by hand and foot.

One question mark over Caminiti's ability to make the next step may be his exposure to high levels of football. He played six game's in Victoria's leading school football competition this year, but only three at NAB League level. Five of his six NAB League goals came in one game and he could not quite find the goals in his Victorian trial dig. His movement further afield may be a factor, but Caminiti certainly found his best goalkicking form in the APS.

DRAFT PROJECTION: Late/Rookie

SUMMARY:

In a draft crop dominated by midfielders, clubs may be more willing to take chances on developing talls a little higher up the order. In Caminiti's case, he'd be an ideal late-round or rookie option given his upside and rate of development, with exciting traits which can be enhanced at the next level. He is mobile and comfortable in possession, adding a bit of dynamism to go with his goalkicking and marking ability.

Anthony has always been a really big kid.
I first met his him when he was about 10.
He has always been big bodied and strong.
Was a gun sprinter and discus thrower as a youngster. Played state rep footy U12.

Always been a forward.
A few kids caught him at 15/16 for size and he wasn’t as prominent but he continued to grow & had a good finish to his draft year and was probably stiff not to get a rookie contract.

I dont care what his origins are if he can play. Id imagine SOS would have got a heads up from his son, as Caminiti had been training with their VFL side. A late developer hopefully SOS has found a diamond in the rough.

Would Eyre had been a better prospect because he could have played if needed now instead of this kid who will probably not play. We do not need another big kid who might make it we have enough of those players, Heath, van es, Keeler, Allison, Adams, Anthony Carminati, Owens, Phillipou. We were better off trying to get someone like a Oscar McDonald at 26 196cm and 90 games give him a 1 year and he could play now if needed or keep Eyre I am sure there are others we could have got I missed.

Eyre was more athlete than footballer from Essendon reports and while mobile and nice kick has concrete for hands when marking the footy

Played in the VIC team as a 12 YO, state champion over 100mt at the same age.

Was on the radar very early.
Was not a late developer, in fact was a man child early.

Also very young in his draft year with a December birthday.

He might make a player but there is no way he’d play seniors in 2023 so this would be a development pick.

I very much doubt he is training with us to become an instant fill in, he is another term prospect we definitely need. He appears to be a natural forward who can stick his marks, hits packs and is good on the ground. If he takes a year or two it doesnt matter its a list need.

Hayes & King are our main targets, but Hayes really hasnt consolidated and both are sometime away. Allison is still very much a question, more than likely to be delisted at seasons end. Then after him we have Keeler, then Sharman who is probably best suited as a 3rd tall.

If Caminiti can become a future key forward with Keeler & King id be wrapped. In the interim we get games into Owens & Phillipou playing forward - the future forward line will be much brighter.

If there was a ready made key forward every club would be all over him. All the possible trade options over looked us so if we have to develop a player then so be it. How many of our 'ready made' state league players have made it. Wilkie is it and he is not a key position player - some times we just have to be patient.

Horse before the cart hete. The kid has been invited to train, that’s it. He is not in the club let alone the team yet so nobody should even be talking about him playing. We just need to accept that our forwards are going to lacking for the first month or so.

But members is there and I never got the hate for Sharman. He had a bit of work to do but he seemed to be good enough to play afl based on his first few games. Not a certain starter each game but he should of had a few more games last year for the very situation we are in now
