Gresham is winning more footy in the forward 50 than anyone in the comp. Leigh Montagna stat. Can't wait for the replies .

Lyon worked out pretty quickly to isolate him one on one …

Hard to believe, but if it's true he's not using it very well.

Rd1 - Freo: 17 disposals, 2 tackles, 2 goals
Rd2 - WB: 18 disposals, 2 tackles, 2 goals
Rd3 - Ess: 23 disposals, 0 tackles, 1.1

General consensus is that Gresh had a miserable night vs Essendon where things didn’t go his way, fumbled, missed a goal but kicked a late one when it mattered that took the ugliness off his night to a degree. But…

My feeling is that overall, Gresh has been pretty solid so far this year. He’s looked really dangerous up forward, kicked goals, pushed up the ground at times and gotten kicks and whilst he was outshined by both Butler and Higgins on the night… had been much better than both overall so far. Gresh’s performance will improve markedly if he can just improve his decision making especially under pressure. For that reason I think he’s a lot better suited to a forward pocket role where his natural inclination to sink goals benefits us more than it hurts us.

Overall… I reckon he gets marked harshly here. He’s a good player and a real asset to our team.

Gresh played his part in the fast start we had against Essenden.

He lined up in the middle at the first centre bounce of the game.

He was the first Saint to get his hands on the footy and he got a clean disposal by hand to his team mates which led to the first goal

He has strengths. He hunts the footy and can change direction on a dime…

But that doesn’t excuse him when he burns he team mates

No established keg targets doesn’t help. Few times the ball was kicked forward our players gave up front position

He’s a real livewire up forward and a handful for anyone if he can be isolated one on one. Our opponents panic when he is any space.

He's a good player who could potentially be a lot better. He's had a lot of injury to deal with in recent years and it's understandable that he's still a little rusty.

I reckon he will have a breakout game soon where he'll start doing most things right. Let's hope it's Saturday night.

Another player who might potentially break out on Saturday night is Caminiti. If you watch the replay of the game against the Bombers, you'll see quite a few moments in which he came very close to bringing off something amazing, but things didn't end up quite going his way.

if only he could kick - and by that I mean to the advantage of a team mate! It's hard for others to adapt to that insufficiency. That said, he's worth a spot and he has to figure out how to improve.

Still don't think we can carry Gresh, Higgins and Butler all in the same side once we start getting a few players back, 2 of the 3 for me.

Gresh was a lock but his kicking just seems to have dropped right off, and Butler and Higgins big games have closed the gap.

Will be interesting.

No question that Gresham oozes potential, he can be dynamic and occasionally pulls a rabbit out of his hat and scores a miraculous goal.

It's just that he has, by virtiue of what Rubiyo weirdly terms his 'insufficiences', on occasion let his team mates down, and no, rather than his team mates adapting to Gresham, he needs to adapt to the team culture.

Get that sorted out and he'll be the champion small we all want him to become.....

If Gresham hits his skills as we know he can,he may win a brownlow. He is by far our most dangerous mid and our most complex footballer. If he gets it right for a stretch and we have 35 fit players to rotate. He could be our brightest star.
He could draw us 2 first round picks too.
Either way, he is in great physical condition and looks to be on fire athletically atm.

He should be AA. He’s unpredictable and has the X factor. Just needs to improve on his blaze away instincts. When it comes off, it looks spectacular. Not when it doesn’t.

Yes and no Sm65, I often hear commentators say that Gresham is a star, for example that he will be hotly sought after by a number of clubs at the end of this year when he becomes a free agent.

The good thing is that 2023 will be when he will be found out and either prove that he IS elite, or stagnate in the FAQ AFL player category.

I really hope it's the former....

While in the main I agree, he has wasted the ball forward at times by just blazing away when he had some good options to pass to. And Gresh is not a long kick, so that attempted long kick rarely sems to work for him.

Gresh's main fault is that at times that with his kicking that he too often attempts the incredible, rather than the more achievable.

"Lower the eyes" seems to be the current footspeak that he just needs to master.

If he could just improve that aspect of his game he would be a true "gun". So instead of being "solid" as you say he would instead be a "gamebreaker/changer".

In short, Gesh "wins" the ball well. But his "use" of the ball is a below what it needs to be to be a "gun" player.

He handed off to Hill instead of taking a shot, as he normally would from that range.

Gresh's unpredictability and his ability to make something from nothing is the reason he's so important to the team.
