Is Pou quick enough to be a midfielder? I'm not convinced.

Crouch I can excuse a little for interrupted preseason, looked off the boil but probably better for the run. Pou in the midfield was an unmitigated disaster IMO and didn’t seem like we had any answers for Holmes influence who just broke our lines repeatedly
Was Seb injured or did he get benched?
Seb was Seb = and at the risk of upsetting BM - NOW Seb should probably be in our best 22 - but just
The whole midfield was lacking something tonight.

Henry being the positive, just hunts the ball relentlessly and always looks like he's going to create something, we need more of him.

Crouch has had interrupted pre season. Shouldn't have played. No idea with Seb. I was really surprised he was subbed out. Didn't seem like there was an injury.

Collard very stiff and should have had his first AFL goal last night

Jimmy Webster was sadly missed last night, we had no one willing to sacrifice their own game to do a lock down job on Dempsey who should've kicked 5.

From my POV, the criticism isn’t of Collard or his performance. The above is correct.

IMO he should have started and been given a good go of it or mot at all…
Coming on in the last 1/4, a a debutant in Geelong… incredibly difficult. We did him no favours.

Ross mentioned Pou, Windhager, Crouch in the post match as having interupted preseasons and giving them a bit of a pass. I don't recall Pou missing much time in the preseason or training reports of him being off the track so not sure what that was about.

Thought Windhager was ok considering, the other two definitely looked off the pace to me though.

Pou didn't play the second half of the north game with a bad hip.

Awake after getting back from the 240km round trip.

I could sum up that game in one word -predictable.

For those Sainters who made the trip to KP, well done. We made a lot of noise considering and I think we could have made more if our execution in the forward line was better.

It was always going to be difficult to win with four new players debuting down there, and we gave ourselves a chance to win at the end, but as is so often the case down there, their experience in the midfield was ultimately the difference.

We can't use injuries as an excuse because we have to play our younger players and despite it looking at times like a group of players never having played together before, versus a team with players who have played in one or two premierships together, which it was, I think the decision to go with the four new inclusions was ultimately the correct one.

The trick now is, who comes in and who goes out for Thursday's blockbuster. Very short turnaround.

I thought Geelong made us look very slow which is frightening considering. Collingwood don't have a monster forward line like Geelong, so Sinclair comes in if fit. The midfield really struggled so if there is any chance of Dow coming in, that would be a no brainer.

The forward line was pretty much dysfuntional, so if Butler could come in so we can hold the ball in our forward line, I would bring him in too.

As I said, St Kilda did what they so often do and played to the script last night, I hope they can flip the script Thursday night, or it is going to be a long evening.

Collard is clearly not AFL ready. Jones should have been selected ahead of him in my honest Fing opinion.

Lance has a great deal more upside than Zac and far more inherent talent. A foot race between them while both are holding a footy would be interesting.
Anyway no side can afford to have Zac and J Higgins both in it and expect to win against top 8 sides, they make too many errors.

Yes, I agree. It was the correct decision to play Collard. He will have learned a lot from that last quarter. He stays in for the match Thursday for mine. He was actually running to the right spaces. Could be a real weapon at the G!

Creditable effort at a venue where we have not won this millennium. We were still a chance to win in the final few minutes.

We need to hit back hard against the Filth, who are ripe for the picking.

They were kissed on the forehead many times last season, winning from impossible positions. These things tend to even themselves out over time. Also, the end is coming very quickly for their ageing champions Pendlebury and Sidebottom.

The biggest danger I can see from them is the noise coming from their horde of toothless, jobless illiterate fans. We need to s*** them up early.

Go Saints, get it done

A lot of guys looked short of a run - and a few played out of position.

For starters , crouch noticeably short of a run , but should get better.
Pou is not midfield ready, so we are already in trouble in any game where he has to play as a mid. The great mystery is why aren’t we giving Owens more midfield time ? - I suspect the answer is because we need him to cover for Marshall so need to keep him in reserve. This doesn’t look like being resolved any time soon. Jack Hayes may be the answer, but that likely means Sharman goes back to Sandy if Membrey and King both fit.
Collard not quite AFL ready but with Butler our only other true small forward we have limited options (Higgins plays like an undersized full forward not a crumbing small forward) . Perhaps we improvise and experiment with Wilson, Garcia and others until Butler returns.
Windhager didn’t have the lock down impact we have seen from him in the past - but got better as the game wore on .

Ironically, this year already shaping to be more a year of exploration of our list than last year was.

Henry and Bonner a real positive. Sinclair will add some much needed class.

Dow, Clark, Hayes and Jones all have something to offer if they can get on the park.

How do you know this - one quarter on - Burned 3 times after being in the right position for a small forward - Stats 0-0-0-0

He came on in a quarter that we were kicking them from long range - with the exception of Sharman who 'rescued' Higgins wayward long shot.
