I'd be interested to see how that worked. Seems freer up the ground and more comfortable in shooting for goal from range.

Yep

I’d play him high and Caminiti and Hayes/Marshall deep

Would you have traded McKay out if you were Carlton last year?

I think King is a CHF with a tank - we just need a FF and 3 zones to target inside 50 - and the miss told to kick it there - even if no-one is in the spot - it is the forwards job to get there

Watching Ade v Car at the moment - their forwards are leading to space and the Miss are rewarding the lead

You are quite hard to follow at times. When we had Ryder, you kept saying Marshall was not a forward and we were killing him and ourselves playing him forward. (paraphrasing)

Play him between the arcs. We should look at how Carlton use McKay. Pressure release from d50. Don't need him deep

Yeah like anywhere but the Forward line. After 75 games it's time to try something different with him

I do wonder though how King would perform if our forward line was as open as GWS's was today.
We've had the same basic failing forward structure for 10 years with 4 different coaches.

Ghost like

Marshall 70% minimum in the ruck - he is a ruckman - watch today

Rest him deep forward at times

Loved the attitude of Membrey, Owens and Caminiti today. Compare their work rate and fight with King. He's mentally soft. B.M is right. He needs a kick in the ass.

He's no where near the star FF that people believe he can be. This U12's style twirling of the ball bs has to stop too.

I posted in the votes thread that he reminded me of Kurt Tippett (Tippett was overpaid and had 1 good game every 5). Actually...we should start using him in the ruck. Make him earn his keep. Make him play a role instead of him thinking he's a star Full Forward

Don't agree with the OP but I do know then when King was lining up for goal I thought, "There's no way this is going through." King's body language was part of that.

Dumb? He is unquestionably talented. At worst he will become Joe Daniher who is a frustrating gun at best he could be the dominant forward in the competition.

That said...

If RL doesn't want to change the game plan to cater to King could someone half the price not perform the same role.

Cammaniti has shown he can.

Arguably Hayes could.

Both are considerably more consistent with their efforts, body language and accuracy.

That's before you consider what you could get back for him.

2 x first picks and arguably more.

Could be transformative.

B.M.,

I watched, he was great in the ruck today. He can always get a stack of football. Just acknowledge that you always seem to point out when we get smashed in the ruck, it is in the centre. Yet you never appreciated the work of Ryder, bemoaning the worth of a ruck tap.

We always look a better side when RoMa can spend time forward. Marshall's stats may not benefit but the team does.

We need a genuine Fwd / Ruck to complement him. We need Paddy MK II. Is it Keeler??? Let's find out.

Max doesn't work hard enough

Make him try to achieve a certain number of marks per game and leads per game rather than just trying to set him up to kick goals.

He either needs to play as second ruck or play higher up the ground. He doesn't have to kick multiple goals each game to be valuable team member.

He needs some tough love. At the moment he is not the star that people believe he is.

Today he had a set shot (maybe his only one) from around 40 metres out, slightly to the right of goal, and it slewed off badly to the left.

One would have hoped he would have learnt from last week when he had two shots from the same position which also slewed off exactly the same.

And surely it is time for someone to correct his approach to a set shot when he swirls the ball in his hands as he walks in.

Whether it’s King or our coaches/setup, it’s clear we’re not getting the best out of him.

A change of scenery might work for both, if we get a haul in return?

But we have a, alleged, goal kicking coach. Whoever this mythical figure is should be exorcised. King, Caminiti, Owens, Membrey, Sharman, Higgins have all been embarrassing this season....if you cannot kick a drop punt straight from 20 metres on a 45 degree angle, and your goal kicking coach says "kick around the corner", he's the wrong coach for limited talent.

Watching Ben and even though he's kicked 4 behinds, he looks more likely kicking the goal, he currently has 3.
He also does not spin the ball when lining up.
