Garcia. Great Debut

Post: # 2052194Post StPeter »

I think this deserves it's own thread.

Showed so much in a quarter and half of footy.

6 tackles, 2 clearances, 11 possessions (7 contested) from 34% game time

Deserves to be given a full game next week

He had 5 tackles in about 10 minutes in the 3rd I reckon, came in like a wrecking ball

It certainly does deserve its own thread.

He's got that manic attack on the contest. Energetic, aggressive and quick.

He's a keeper

That's two we can give a tick to from last year's draft.

Aside from being a Garcia not Gacia

Does he play as a small forward? If so -
Butler may have to work really hard to get back as Hugo seems to have the tackling covered.

Would have been handy on the field for the whole match at that rate of return.

Showed Philippou what a real effort looks like. - had better stats than Pou in 1/2 the time on the ground.

I am sure nobody minds - just important to me that a player is named correctly

From inside sources - Phillipou has asked for more time in the midfield to learn the craft. Considerably hard position to learn. Not sure what people want from a 19 yo - they can’t all hover around the HBF or HFF and stay comfortable

Back on topic though - I love the impact that Hugo had and it was constant and I hope he gets up for Thursday

Has a sub ever gotten a rising star nomination?

Big fan

Said in another thread earlier this week

He will be better than Wilson and Phillipou

Very slick player, and tough

He will be the steal of the draft

We saw a changing of the guard today in terms of the best 22, out Butler,in Garcia. Not exactly comparing apples with apples but Garcia brings the tenacity and endeavour from a small mid.

He showed a bit in pre-season, and really franked it today.

If your whipping boys are Phillipou and Wilson you are probably not doing too bad

I thought he went great today and appeared to be starting at the centre bounce a few times.
In reference to Philipou ,not a knock on him , but if he wants more midfield time then a couple of whole games in midfield at Sandy might be the go, that’s probably what someone like Geelong would do.

He seemed to give the Impression he felt like he belonged at the AFL level, attacked the ball and contest with speed and intent. Looking forward to his next few games.

Again… acknowledging that this isn’t an apples to apples comparison, this is why I hate persevering with out of form players or building the fitness of senior players in the seniors.

Absolutely should I have started ahead of Butler and was worth dropping Jones even for him to start as sub as both have been a shadow of themselves so far.

I would rather take the gamble on a Garcia doing that… and giving the chances to Hastie/Collard/Schoenmaker when they’re knocking on the door over a predictable, mediocre performance of an out of form player, every time

And I'd like to see King play at Sandy for a while and give Caminiti the number one job for run of games for the same reason. 75 games in and I am now really worried about King's spot in the forward line and on an AFL field, just doesn't look comfortable out there. He's got the same timid and nervous look that Billings plays with.

The way he threw himself into every contest shamed most of our midfielders this year. With the endeavour that he showed, he should be starting in the centre square next week.

He earned his spot in the starting 22 on Thursday.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.
