3 "Retired" numbers now

Interesting that G-Trains's former number has also been added to the "Vacant" list with Thommo's and Harves.

Vacant numbers - is there a strategy here?

Post: # 687720Post 8bloggs »

Apart from showing the obvious respect for the former holders of numbers 4, 9 and 35 - maybe there is an incentive for the existing list for aspiring midfielders and full forwards?

Hopefully Tom Lynch is as successful as some of the other number 29's before him.

Well maybe not Rix, although he was servicable.

But Andrew Thompson, Aussie Jones, Justin Peckett & Nathan Burke could all play a bit.

Russell Greene and Gary Odgers were handy.

I think that players of the ilk of Sam Gilbert, David Armitage, Clinton Jones, Robert Eddy, Jarryd Allen, Jarryn Geary & Jack Steven would have all been keeping an eye on those numbers.

I can understand keeping #4 vacant for a year, and #35 is a high number so we can keep that vacant for a while, but to have two numbers in the first ten vacant is a bit silly. Let the players know they are staying at the club by giving them a low number.

I had Jones in #4 and Allen in #9.

I have just checked my spreadsheet on player numbers and their were a few and players with that number..

Neil Besanko wore that number and also Steven Baker did as well.

I also noticed a player by the name of Gordon Ramsay who wore that number many years back

He only played 13 matches, he may of got rubbed out for swearing

not so much 9 but the No.4 jumper is in a special class of its own at Sainterland and i'm prety sure all those who have worn it since the Doc have had to well and truly earn it before it was given to them ....someone will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong but to my memory its always been a number a "special" player has graduated to if you like... Breeny, Plugger etc
can anyone compile a list of 4 since Baldock?

Hmmm and i was thinking it was odd when Rooey was signing his autograph at training without his #12 above it... i was thinking he was destined for a greater number! but no, it seems there was nothing to it..still a bit odd though.

I really don't understand what you mean by "greater number"???

What is wrong with making the #12 his own??

What is wrong with your Milney not having this "greater number"???

Not too bad I guess.

I would've liked the great BJ to given number 4.

Or is he to well established as our number 18 to change at this stage of his career???

I also hope number 50 is good enough to get elevated and play a game in 2009!

12 is a good number, i was just implying that with 4 and 35 being available i had the delusion that nick might be receiving one. a couple of us had a talk about it but obviously it was never going to happen.
