But I would nominate that famous StK v Carl game (the Daniels-Winmar-Lockett match) as probably the best atmosphere at any game I have ever been to.
The crowd just went beserk !
Scenes of naked jubilation.
Spot on Enrico, the best game of footy I have been to, the grandstand was literally rocking, the roar when plugger took the mark and converted and the unbridaled joy when the siren went, absolutely brilliant!!!

I agree. There's probably a few on this site who don't remember Plugger playing for the Saints but I can't remember a player controlling a game single handedly the way he did. Especially on that day. He kicked 10 goals out of 13 on the full back of the century (also kicked 6 or 7 behinds from memory). It was probably the game that gave the players the belief that took them to the finals in 91.

oh when wrote:One memory I have was in 1973 we played North at Moorabbin in one of the last rounds and had to win to stay in the five - North were three goals up at three qtr time and kicked the first two in the last qtr - then we started kicking goals and got up to win - when we hit the front the Moorabbin Stand literally shook in its foundations.

I was a kid then and standing on the outer wing.
What I remember most was many of the North fans were crying as their dreams of playing finals that year were shattered.
North were actually two up at 3/4 time and lost by three after some premature celebrations before our 5 goal turn-around.
They never forgave us.
And we suffered some humiliating pay-back defeats in the years to follow.

I mean, with 99% of the crowd at feral park barracking for them, I'd imagine it would be quite intimidating.
I take your point but in terms of a viewing spectacle the crowd involvement and interest levels were electric during this entire contest.

I have experienced some big moments at the Dome - but still nothing compares to this night - far and beyond the best atmosphere I have ever experienced, even bigger than a Showdown which says a fair bit.

I was thinking of this exact game too. When CJ chased down Buddy I thought the roof was going to come off!

That was my first ever game at Moorabbin as a little tacker. The moment was obviously wasted on me as I remember us being in front all day?

That was electric. Even the roar for Brisbane was loud...but the roar when Schwarze kicked that goal was as loud as I've heard at a game.

The next year when Milney kicked 11 was pretty special too...

Agree 100%, that was absoloutly amazing. I was hugging strangers !!

No questions asked - that atmosphere was hysterical.

52,000 to watch us play Brisbane?

Unbelievable, with the climax to match.

#1 for me.

Three all-time classics. And can I throw in the 2004 Prelim at AAMI (as I always do :P). I simply loved everything about that night, apart from the fact we lost.

So many St Kilda fans...it was sensational. And we were ****ing loud.

1999 down at Geelong evokes some memories of sensational atmosphere too among the travelling mass. Nothing like a good away trip.

No - thankyou evertonfc for not throwing the ball back to Chris Johnson while the Saints set up their defensive zone late in the game.

I held onto that bastard, passed it along to the family, then took it back, spun it a few times, (Johnson is getting mad at me by this point, demanding it back), handballed it to myself, looked up - our zone still wasn't ready - and tossed a loopy pass about 10m over his head.

When Luke Power ran out of time - by about 0.1seconds - I claimed my input was worth at least two of the four points we won that night.

Check the tape if you don't believe me. Who says fans can't have an impact on matches?

:D

I reckon the best 'we may have lost but' would have to be the '05 Prelim against Port...I've never seen those smug Port supporters looking so scarred in their entire AFL history...Gehrig storming into the goal square at the start of the match must have made the hairs stand up on the back of their necks. If only Guerra had made some decent contact with that ball in the square, given 5 minutes time-on we would have won by 5 goals, the way we were travelling. Sigh.

ask everton but we were right in front of this...

ball heads over the back of the pack and guerra just can't get a decient touch to it..... would have been a goal for all money....

incrediable night, would have beaten 97 if we got the chocolates...
