It's KILLING ME!!

Post: # 690484Post Seaford_Saint »

Sorry to have a whinge... but I will anyway....

It's early January.... there has been no footy for 3 months... we are still 3 months away from the serious stuff.... Moorabbin is as quiet as a mouse...

I almost want some sort of scandal to hit... just give me something!! anything!! I'm dying here.

I'm going to be selfish and say the season should be extended to 36 weeks (32 + 4 finals).... as well as 4 weeks of pre-Season.... pay the players double, that will keep them happy.

It's even worse this year with the South Africans giving us what-for in the cricket.

Let's get the tennis over and done with, and get back into it.

Whinge over. :)

I always think once the new year passes we aren't far away from getting back into it.

Boys training again shortly. (maybe even already lol), and only about a month away from an intraclub game.

I agree. I have had enough off season. I must have a shallow life, I really hang out for footy every week. Watching 5 to 6 games will get me my fix. I probably need to address this  :D

thank god for that eh yipper?

It's such a letdown though after the intraclub, that we have to endure the nab rubbish at Telstra Dome, Cairns, China etc.

If only we could have a proper 4 week practice match series at suburban grounds!

Wouldn't it be great to play Carlton at a praccy match at Moorabbin?

Imagine the crowd - would be about 15K - awesome atmosphere, and a great fundraiser for the social club!

The friggin nab crap and challenge series gives bugger all for most clubs, unless you win it or come second.

A series of praccy matches at our traditional suburban homes would do so much for the soul of all the Melbourne clubs, and bring back a grass-roots element that is sadly lacking once the real stuff begins.

I'm reaching today- for football related news

bought a nearly month old Inside football
I can tell you;
- Stan Alves has re-released 'Sacked Caoch" with two new chapters- one of which deals with anger management- with an editors note that if he had realised then what he does now- he may not have needed to title the book as he did,
-Tom Lynch once had a blood clot removed form his head
-Colm is still smiling
-Toowoomba AFC need players- especially ones who may be qualified Diesel mechanics
-the Bushpigs would like a high profile quality marquee player
-Mangoplah would like a proven goalkicker
-Coolamon and Griffith want quality players amd the jdets need a coach
and
-Milney has a 58% chance of scoring....against top 8 teams

and the first Saints H&A game is on March 28th

I'm with ya on that - what a fantastic way to celebrate the game by playing these praccy matches in the heartland. It would be just fantastic.

A little birdie told me there is a practice match on Feb 6th at Moorabbin.

I don't think it has been announced yet but I was told by a good source.

That is only 32 sleeps if you sleep every night.

I just don't understand why the AFL doesnt get serious , meet the needs of the average member , and play 48 weeks of home & away, and 4 weeks of finals....

Summer is great for the weather...just needs some AFL .... :D

In all seriousness, I think we should dump the NAB Cup and extend the season to 30 rounds...

It would kill the 'favourtism' in the draw, generate more money for clubs, make clubs more accountable for in the way they managed their lists, would provide more opportunities for young players to play, etc.

There's no mythical formula to me that says the season begins in late March and ends in September. I'd happily have the finals in October.

I wonder if they extended it to 26 plus finals, if the clubs would end up having praccy matches too, prior to the season beginning, therefore extending the season to 34 weeks?

It would be great for some teams and supportors if the year was 30 weeks but I am not sure whether the bottom clubs could handle it. It isnt going to ever happen anyway as 22 weeks is nearly to hard on players bodies so 30 weeks would be impossible to manage. Also where would they play in those extra 8 weeks?

They should play a Gaelic comp in summer.

Great pre-season for footballers to keep fit without the contact to get hurt.

And would wet the appetite for a ball sport in summer for the fans who don't rate the cricket.

Do you think it will be at Moorabbin ? due to the grandstand being off limits..

You would watch people from this forum play Gaelic footy but you have lost your passion for the Saints. That is truely amazing as Harry Hoo would say.

that's the date I surmised too-- hope they don't make it 2 or 3 pm like some clubs did last year

but keep it at 5 or even 6

I hadn't heard of Stan Alves book before. Since everyone who played under him (except for Max and Lenny, I think) no longer plays for us... can anyone enlighten me what happened that led up to his sacking?
I know we had gone from the GF to 8th, but what was gonig on at the time? Does he say anything about it? Have any of the other players said stuff that I haven't heard?

I am not trying to bait anyone... please feel free to PM me if you feel it is more appropriate.

Cheers
Mark

there's a synopsis here mark
http://www.collectablebooks.com.au/comp ... uct_id=164

one of the quotes in the review I read in Inside football was that he was a good 6 day coach- like many great during the 6 non playing days but in the heat of game day his temperment went up a notch-
famously draged a player of the fence on the boundary line to 'talk'- well yell at him.
