history repeating

Post: # 704849Post iremember66 »

In 1966 there was a bit of an upheaval in the life of Victorians:

The end of the six o'clock swill, and

decimal currency arrived.

We face more major upheavals in 2009:

Global economic downturn, and

devastating bush fires.

Time for the Saints to grab another flag while everybody is busy adjusting...

How did we do in '83?

I'm sure there were bushfires then, and there is always some other crisis going on.

And, in 1966:

Australia and the US upped the number of troops they sent to the Vietnam war (and both countries are set to do the same again in Afghanistan in 2009)

There was a civil war in Sudan (and in 2009 there still is).

The Beatles played their last ever live concert (and they haven't played one since).

Billy Rose, Buster Keaton and Admiral Nimitz died (and they are all still dead).

Patrick Dempsey, Jimeoin, Tea Leoni, Rick Astley, Wendy James (the lead singer of Transvision Vamp), Cindy Crawford, Samantha Fox, Phil Tufnell, John Daly, Eric Cantona, Mike Tyson, Kathryn Erbe, Adam Sandler, Matt Drudge, David Schwimmer and Kiefer Sutherland were all born (and none of them have ever become the slightest bit more appealing in the subsequent 43 years: at least to me).

Personally, I have always preferred natural products in smaller-size packaging to low quality synthetic material produced in bulk.

But to each their own.........

I love the optimism and hope.
But seriously someone needs to pop your bubble that you are living in.

We are not even close to winning at flag at the moment, there are way too many teams that will be better than us in 2009.

I am not being a pessimist, I am just being realistic.

However there is always hope that I will be proven wrong and I will enjoy eatting humble pie and have the living hell kicked out of me at the end of September if I am.
