He has played one practice game and has played for 9 years. You had Alister Smith in the side with no practice games and in his first year so what do you think?

I don't think we should play him. He's a hack anyway.

I don't think we can really afford to risk him before finals. There's too much at stake. Even in finals, we should probably only use him sparingly. What would we do if he hurt himself before the GF? We can't really afford to take that chance. Geelong, maybe - but not us. We'll need to be careful on GF day as well. If he got hurt on the big day we'd be in trouble. We're not Hawthorn. And afterword, when they're hoisting the cup, we should probably have Ross Lyon do all the heavy lifting. We can't afford to lose him for 2010, or beyond that, with the Gold Coast coming in and taking all the draft picks. The only way we can be sure he'll be fit and ready to play is if we don't let him play.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

I got a bad feeling about this game. We seem to b e taking it as a dead set win.

Something feels like round 12 2004 against the doggies... for some reason.

Have you heard the players say it is a dead set win because i havent. Not sure people on here thinking it is a deadset win has any influence at all on the players.

Agreed. Haven't heard a single player or coach coming out and saying anything like that or being cocky in any way. Sheesh, don't mistake supporter entusiasm with the StKilda footy team being cocky!! All the players are just looking forward to Round 1 and hopefully getting off to a good start.

I have heard a rumour that A.Smith will be taking N.Riewoldts place at FF for R1 and that Roo may have trouble breaking back into the seniors after A.Smiths debut game.

Only a rumour mind you.

Armitidge came out last week and quoted Ross as saying we had an easy start to the season- which Ross then corrected and said he was taken out of context. Does that count?

I'm actually a lot more worried about this week than round one last year... or the year before for that matter.... I don't know where we're going to get the midfield muscle to beat Sydney in the stoppages...

The media speculation that implies StKilda has a dream start to the season via the AFL draw astounds me. Three games at home and two at AAMI stadium. OK pencil in the three at home and then in round six and seven we face Bulldogs and Collingwood. Dreaming maybe, but hardly a dream start.
The skipper will be under done in Round 1 and will play at full forward. We could do worse than have Goddard or even Lynch take the centre half forward spot. Mind you, it's Round 1 and anything is possible.
Go Saints.
