he made a good start in 2007....had injuries in 2008..and slipped a bit until he got fit.....now he back to his best....

GT called him in pre-season 2006, when I asked him who looked good.....he said Gilbert was composed and had all the tools to become a player.....in his words, he is "ready made"

Good thing we had him pencilled in as a fwd pre-season......

hes looking more sure of himself as a defender. i guess we first saw this during the collingwood final last year?

looks more confident down back and is building his running and forward game.

looks to be a star.

Yep, Munga. My daughter and I also had him pegged from day 1, and I think he's still got heaps in store for us.

Most improved player from last year.

He's been exceptional. If someone were to tell me that they believed he was our best performer this season I'd say fair enough.

Such a safe pair of hands.

I was watching on justin.tv and listening to AW. Walls was saying Gilbert was a superstar in the making. Then Commetti, Rex and the others got on the Gilbert bandwagon. He was very impressive. As were a few others of course!

Always liked the look of him but his skills really were his big let down but he really seems to have lifted in that area as well. He's looking a million bucks at the moment.

I just love the way he brushes off the opposition players off as he runs past them. Its a rugby "no nonsense" style. He is also a great tackler. He is only going to get stronger and more confident. His marking is growing in confidence.

He has the speed for the smalls and height for the Talls. Shanahan used to do this and then Max has this ability and now Sam is the next generation!

I thought it was interesting how they spoke of making him the 3rd "tall" in the forward line and then they put Goddard up there yesterday! Goddard is the better kick so it makes sense to use him that way but I think they may use Gilbert as a "Swing Man", if required, just to mix up the opposition sometimes.

Gilbert and Goddard have this important flexibility for matchups.

Missing targets with his kicks was a major problem - has improved heaps in this area (as well improving in most departments) He is as tough as a cats head - bounces back after getting knocked a*** over.

Keep going Sam. Now Bev if we could just get that other Qld Boy up and going :D

Isn't there still a good chance he'll end up playing as a forward at some stage?

We still have Max, X, Raph & possibly Goose to come back into the team. A couple of the current defenders may be pushed forward to midfield/forward line I would have thought?

that will give us an embarrassment of riches in the backline and the opportunity to free up some very good players for more creative roles. it's a good position to be in.

I hope he doesn't bulk up. He's already strong and can pin a tackle, but his agility is an awesome weapon. He's got it all; strong mark in packs, good leap, low powerful accurate long kick, the best tackling technique, fast, agile, and for someone not long in the game and good football brain. I can not find a weakness.

He was impressive again. He's now in my Supercoach team as a replacement for Raines...I should've had him in from the start!

Our defence looks great with him in it....and to think we are conceding only 66pts a game without Max.

And to digress a little, with the improvement of Gilbert and Raph, Bakes return to the team and Max, Fish, Gram, Goddard... Maguire would simply be a bonus or the icing on the cake and not an "if only we had him"
