Key Match Ups v Dogs

Post: # 730941Post older saint »

Should be a great test as dogs off 2 losses and i think a better team than that. We may have some match up problems with their smaller forward line.

Key Matchups:
Boyd - McQualter
Cooney - Dal ( go head to head as neither have great defensive skills)
Aker- Jones
Cross- Hayes

Forward:
Higgins - Gilbert
Johnson - If deep maybe Dawson, If high Baker
Giansiracussa - Ray

The dogs run and run. Hopefully the saints miserly defence will lead to them long bombs which without a marking option will help us. Look for Williams to take roo. Lake may have a gwilt type which helps us . if that happens look for gwilt/goddard to be isolated.

Watch for usual suspects: Murphy, Aker,

Jones will get either Cooney or Griffen
Bakes will get Akermanis
Mini to Cross
Gilbo should take Hahn, who always gets away from us
Blake to Minson when he goes forward
Fisher to Johnson

Higgins is their most damaging player IMO, he must be paid a lot of respect. Gilbo in the backline and McQ in the midfield.

CJ should get the run with role against Griffen, they're pretty similar players.

I would love to see Dal go head to head with an injured Cooney, it would be great for us but I would expect Dal to be spending some time with Boyd this week...

Ryan Griffen is their top player. Cut us to pieces last year. Young Jones might get the job.

Look for Williams. Did a reasonable job last year. If so look for him to play closer to goal. 2nd option Lake. He actually chased Richo around so not as much of a mit match as first think.

Williams got injured again on the weekend, I believe he was able to come back and should be right for next week, but if he is their best bet to shut down Roo they have some issues...

Whether or not it's realistic or not I like the sound of Montagna on Cooney.

A hard running, hard tackling Montagna on a runner in Cooney who's short of a gallop and who doesn't really like to tackle all that much...

Boyd will go to Dal as usual........and why does he not have defensive skills.....he averages the 4th most tackles a game by a saint in the last 5 years......his lack of defence is a myth, and an uneducated throw away line.......any player with sublime skills, who looks effortless has no defence.....check the actual stats....

Match-ups will be pretty much as usual......

Griffen will get Jones
Baker vs Aker
Look for Eddy or Geary to drag Gilbee out of the play
Morris vs Milne
Williams vs Roo
Kosi vs Lake.....if Kosi plays
Dawson will get the deep fwd (Minson)
Blake vs Hahn
Higgins who plays high HF will either get Ray or Gram of HB
The other will go to Murphy

Hayes/Ball vs Cross
Montagna vs Eagleton
Boyd vs Dal

Johnson will get Gilbert/Sam Fisher - the other free

Josh Hill vs Gwilt/Goddard - Wing
Hargraves vs Gwilt/Goddard - FP

Obviously - Gardiner vs Hudson

Side will be

B: DAWSON - FISHER - BAKER
HB: GILBERT - BLAKE - RAY
C: GRAM - HAYES - MONTAGNA
HF: GWILT - RIEWOLDT - GEARY
F: GODDARD - KOSI - MILNE
Foll: GARDINER - JONES - DAL
Int: EDDY - MINI - (KING/McEVOY) - BALL

Emerg: BEGLEY - SCHNIEDER - X.CLARKE

that's pretty constructive, just to be sarcastic about others. you must be so proud of yourself.

i love talking tactics in games with my mates, who is in (and out) of form, and who we need to watch.

love this sort of stuff, but really hope on match up in the OP is wrong. dawson on johnson would be a big mistake imho.

I don't think enough of your are paying Higgins the respect he deserves, he is probably their most damaging player this year, must be kept quiet.

The only place that I would want to Dawson is is they are both off the ground at the same time.

I have been impressed with Dawson this year...but Johnson would be too mobile for him. I get what you mean though in wanting someone to conteract his marking...but Johno would outlead him.

Baker yes.

Gilbert as well.

Schneider will not be dropped. RL doesnt change winning sides unless he has to. Also would think Jones may be a bit small for Griffin. Think he may take someone like Cross as they seem similar players.

Boyd will go to Dal as per usual
I'm tipping that Cross will go to Lenny
Williams will take Roo
Lake will get Kosi if he comes up

CJ will get Griffen
Chips will get Brad Johnson if he's close to goal
Bakes will get Aker
Mini to play a defensive forward role on Gilbee
Ray to do a job on Higgins

I think CJ should go to Higgins. Griffen will beat him in the air given his size and Higgins is their best player at the moment.

Doggies arent great overhead in their forward line, with the contested

mark.Better on the lead exceptions for Johnson and Aker. Keep the

pressure on in their forward half, man on man and their only real option

will be to bomb it long to Minson (who is a hack) to create a contest.

We have 3 of the best intercept marks in the game with Fisher,Blake and

Gilbert down back. I dont think Kosi will come up and BJ will play forward

otherwise he is in this group also. What I've seen of the doggies this year

is teams can run out of their 50 very easily.

Also watch out for Ray Have been extremly impressed with him

this year and I think he will give his old coach a sleepless sunday night,

on what might have been.

8-)

surely the inns are Macca, Raph and Kosi (if it). Anything else is absurd.
Outs should be King, Eddy and Gwilt
