To notch a goal for every 2.83 inside 50s is devastating. They were
This one I find very interesting. Hawthorn defensively out-Geelonged Geelong. The Cats racked up the inside 50s but couldn't make them pay. The opposite of the Saints game. It looks like the Hawks forwards and mids couldn't hold them back but their defence was more than a match for Geelong's forward line.

What I observed at the Grand Final was how Hawthorn controlled the corridor with their zone.
They forced Geelong to attack via the boundary.
When Geelong got an inside 50 it always invariably against the boundary.
Geelong's kicking for goal could have been better but the main reason for their inaccuracy was having to kick from the angle.

When have you ever heard a footballer talk about being "debriefed" or "hitting indicators"? The language is being used right throughout the group.[/quote]

When you don't play to team rules you get debriefed.
Can be quite embarrassing with your teammates all taking photos.

AND Hitting indicators sounds like it could be quite painful.

It seems to me tactically the big changes this year are defending across the centre of the ground thus denying the opposition an outlet from defence and the immediate tackling inside forward 50 not allowing the opposition to sight a target.
Resultant turnovers take place either across the centre of the ground immediately followed by an inside 50 or better still take place inside 50 and in range of the goals.

Agree ACE .. But it also helps not just having Roo as basically the target.
The spread of goal avenues is a big difference.
Second tier players are a great difference too.

Points against
St Kilda 262 (52.4 per match)
next best Geelong 402 (80.4 per match)
That places ALL teams points against more than 50% higher than St Kilda's.
Is it defence or strangulation? :D :D :D
