So get organised....

Food
1) Bring your own food in.
2) If you are too lazy or it is inconvenient then buy from shops OUTSIDE the ground.
3) If you are hungry during the game get a pass-out and buy outside - plenty of shops right near gate 1
Drinks
4) Bring your own drink in - water, soft drink, thermos
4a) (some have even been known to smuggle in a little "heart-starter")
5) If you are too lazy or it is inconvenient then buy drinks (7-eleven) on the way
6) If you need a pre-game nerve-settler then there are plenty of pubs OUTSIDE in Spencer St.
7) If you need alcohol during the game then WAIT till the end - or see rule 4a)
8) After the game go for a drink in the city/CBD
I guess a drink in the Victory room might be an exception but I am pretty sure Collo and his parasitic mates will get a cut.

9) DON'T buy souvenirs / apparel from the shop inside the ground as, even worse, part of the margin there goes to Essenscum as well as Collo Incorporated

But I can assure you it is a great feeling to walk out knowing Collins & Co hasn't earned anything from your visit.

You might also like to send Collo an e-mail proudly advising him how you have spent NOTHING,
and how you intend to spend NOTHING EVER inside his miserable little fiefdom.

There's nothing like the taste of Nando's from the comfort of your own seat at Docklands. Or so I hear. Not that I'd ever personally partake in that kind of mischief. No, no. I'm much more of a 'pay a premium price for questionable food' kind of guy. Lots of people are. The lines for food at the ground are very long. Much longer than the Nando's lines. Or so I hear. I wouldn't go there, but people I know do, and they say it's much better food and much better value. They can't be right though. Docklands Stadium would never gouge valued customers, would they?

In the long term, St Kilda has a stake in the continued viability of the docklands stadium. So while not commensurate with the poor value (gouging) being provided right now, the latter is hardly going to be corrected by those who have stuck by the overpriced low quality food discovering frugality.

It probably won't be overly hurt by them discovering the alternatives though.

Nando's. If you're going to overspend on a chicken burger, overspend on a good chicken burger.

Beware though - my opinion of Eagle Boys Pizza is such that I'm surprised it's not available inside the ground...

i usually take my own food but the kids like a bucket of hot chips in the 3rd quarter to 4th quarter break.

and for me its about time with the kids as well as the saints.

If all footy fans (not only Saints fans) come together to help dry up one of the stadium owners lucrative revenue streams then maybe some power might come back to the people. It may help to deliver some equality in the cost to clubs to play at the venue.

As I said previously I will not stop buying stuff at the ground because I enjoy a beer after the game and some food during the game. I cannot see any positive in not using the services but I have no problem at all if people do it. The thing that most seem to be forgetting is the dome would get minimal money from food and drinks. I think spotless have the rights so they will miss out. Not sure that helps anyone. And yes I realise when the rights come up again they may get less for them but who knows when that is.

If you still would like to have some "footy food" on gameday.

Get yourself some hotdogs, bread rolls & all the trimmings.

Cook the dogs at home and put them in a thermos with some of the water.

Works an absolute treat.

The history of Docklands is what it is - initially funded by Westpac and Westpac lending to Stapled Coupon Investors - mostly invested for tax minimisation purposes.

Simply, the builders called for progress payments resulting in calls on the Stapled Debt Investors who, by a complex ruling of the ATO at the time and bankers not doing what bankers should do (in other words they accepted lending proposals under an ATO ruling distancing the borrower - a doctor's wife into whose name the asset securing the lending was transferred including the family home and then had an income from the doctor's income to service the debt - from the investment where the Coupon remained un-encumbered in the hands of the Investor ( a requirement to obtain the tax minimisation result) - and Westpac entered into these arrangements knowing they were framed to reduce tax (which banks should not do) because there was an interest payment on the debt incurred to purchase the Stapled Security (in the doctors wife's name) but no income from the investment into the doctor's name.

The end event was that the Stapled Coupon Investors did their money big time, as did Westpac as the prime lender.

Since then Docklands has passed thru various hands, all laden with debt and an asset where the valuation is at best problamatic and servicing of the debt is also, at best, problamatic - a circumstance which persists and why we see the "cash grab" we continue to see.

And then there is Collins, whose history in business is on the public record from his days in Office Supplies many years ago.


Simply, too much debt and a problamatic capacity to attend to lending covenants calling for principal plus interest servicing.

Which, from the stories abounding in the Financial Pages, is the story accross the nation and the reason we are as exposed to the global economic downturn as we are.

Enterprises such as Docklands are the major contributors to our over $600 BILLION of Net Foreign Debt, representing a lazy 150% of GDP and the reason Capital is being sought accross the national enterprise not for enterprise (and employment and GDP) but to reduce the debt built up over the past 6/7 years until the s*** hit the fan big time in mid 2007 when "sub prime" came into our language.

So do not expect any improvements in regards arrangements at Docklands - they simply can not afford it because they have an over leveraged position to attempt to service - and a questionable asset valuation underpinning their Balance Sheet.

100% correct. But the problem which your post is that you are letting facts get in the way of populist rants. This will never do. As we see in what is euphemistically called 'the tabloid media' it's best to be dumb and loud in our society at the moment.

For those interested, on 21/6/06, Seven Network Limited reached agreement with James Fielding Funds Management Limited - on behalf of a consortium of major superannuation funds and institutional investors, to proceed with the acquisition of all of Seven Network Limited’s (Seven) interests in Melbourne’s Telstra Dome for approximately $330 million. James Fielding Infrastructure, a joint venture between Mirvac Group and Leighton Holdings Limited, intended to act as the asset manager on behalf of the consortium of investors, which also included the James Fielding Infrastructure Yield Fund. The Seven Network got out while the going was good. They still got burnt.

Despite this, it's a magnificent stadium, with fantastic views for footy and if has a roof! More to the point, we continue to cream opposition teams there. It would be nice to stay in place for a few years. Maybe then, all those who should come to games, but don't ,will recognise it at the place to see the Saints in full flight (rather than on their TV screens).

love this post, I would also add that parking your car for $25 is over the top. leave 10 minutes earlier and find a car park near by not owned by docklands. (it will be cheaper and cost the stadium more money) or take a train.
