Interesting parallells

Post: # 785189Post poatina »

Long time reader, first time poster.
Here's a link to a long article which , in summary , is about how a lateral thinker coaching a basketball side realised it could be competitive by employing a full court press and defensive pressure all the time. It seems to me that this is very much what Ross Lyon has done with St Kilda.

I share St Patrick's admiration for the great Barry Lawrence ( so that should seal my credentials as a long term fan , not a troll. )

Good story. I note that it was written on May 11, the date we trounced Collingwood by 88 points!

Eventually, David meets Goliath's fate, as we all must, but only after 40 years as King. Let's hope the Saints suffer the same fate.

Oh, and welcome to Saintsational as a poster!

Long time browser first time poster too.

I found this a fascinating article with some really interesting insights. It certainly explained the concept of frontal/defensive pressure really well. I can definitely see parallels with the Saints play and attitude this year.

Let's hope we keep slaying all those Goliath's that get in our way.

Now I see why they were calling it unsociable football a few weeks ago .

To play using an alternate strategy or slightly different.

Our tackling and three on one going for the op player un nervs them.

Interesting times ahead .

Yes a very good read....but not for those that do not believe that a good coach can add value.

Now, now SR. You wouldn't be referring to a certain poster whose initials are RF, would you?

Hi Poatina... I'm glad you noticed my admiration for Lawrence.

Always hard to judge when you realise you are remembering through the eyes of a 13 year old but my memories are that he was pure class with great skills and tough to boot. 8-)

A few other oldtimers have confirmed my beliefs over the years.

Nice when long time readers take the plunge and post.

Welcome aboard

Thanks Saint Patrick-
Barry Lawrence was the hero at my local footy club , Longford , when I was a boy. St Kilda was already " my " club because of the Tasmanian connections so when Lawrence went there I was rapt.
When he finsished at St Kilda he returned to Longford as captain - coach and played some terriffic footy . He brought Stephen Theodore with him from the Saints , and man did those two know some ways to inflict pain on the opposition.
