Understandable for sure, but a tad disappointing I cant help feeling. Never EVER can I justify losing to those losers.

Hang on - weren't we all screaming out to see the young guns in action as a preview for 2010 - 2001 prossibles?

Isn't it just spin - undermanned or - full of rookies - same same???

Let's not forget Collingwood may do the same thing.
Still, I really want to win this Friday, after that, not too fussed till round 1.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

I'm sorry maybe I am not getting the full link but where on that Herald Sun page does it say that we are playing undermanned? I figured we would but I can't see anything in that article apart from Roo Kicking 6 goals in the Intra-club whilst 6 GF teamates watched on.

Yeah i love to beat the filth just like anyone else, yeah i do want to strengthen our growing winning culture at our club. But September is a longway away, we have a solid team base and structure which will last throughout the season if we maintain our list well. I say play our younger players and dont risk anything silly for a pissy pre-season grudge match. We have bigger fish to fry this year.

Was thinking the same thing, we may well be undermanned, but the threads link doesn't seem to back up the threads title too well...

Can you please tell me when a side has ever played their best 22 in round 1 of a pre season comp??

Are you suggesting that we will lose because we will not play our best 22??

As we saw against the hawks in round 19....it's about "saints footy" as Ross calls it.

Those guys stepped in and played to the process and we didn't miss a bit.

Let's see how these kids go. Learning how to play our brand.

Carlton, when they won it a couple of years ago.

We will play the team that the coaches want and that's good enough for me, and we'll probably win.

Exactly, playing the kids doesn't automatically equate to a loss...I loved the game against Hawthorn, even our B team is pretty amazing. 8-)

Who's to say the Filth will be playing their best 22 either? It's the pre-season so it's highly likely both clubs will go in "under-manned" and taking the opportunity to give some young kids a chance. I'm happy to give some kids the chance to learn Saints Footy and to enjoy the thrill of beating the Filth.

Personally I would love to see all of our borderline players in the NAB.

We all know how our top 10 will go...

I wan to know if our will our players who are challenging to get in the team go.

Against the Pies I want to see Armo matched against Ball.

Lets test out Big Ben by letting him play No1 ruck.

Bring on Geary, Armo, Stebn and Peake in the midfield.

Also lets have a look at Heyne at HFF and Miles in the backline.

Maybe not all in the one game...but definitely throughout the NAB..

agree. i'm not too fussed if we lose the nab cup. we just have to make sure we hit the ground running once the real stuff starts.

I'd be very annoyed if less than a dozen of our top players were out this Friday night.

The praccy matches at Etihad are all about seeing Sandy players wear Saints jumpers - some them perhaps it will be the only time they ever get to wear the Saints jumper!

Some of you lot forget how exciting it was to see Choo Choo play for the "Saints" in last year's pre-season.

I have a feeling that the Pies want this win more than the Saints, which is why I think they will be close to full-strength,

Whatever team takes the park of Saturday, if we win, great. If we lose, couldn't care a less. Let the Pie followers pour bubbly over their heads and talk up 2010 like they're going to be this unstoppable juggernaut.

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

Don't forget that the loser has to go to Alice Springs, so I think both teams will be trying hard to win.

if we do get sent to the Alice ill expect all of the staring 22 to be "rested"

I doubt it. If a lot have missed this week and are ready for next week they will play. They like players to have one match off and then another on.

Reasons for wanting full strength squad

Want to beat the Pies
Want to be able to see Saints again before Round 1
Don’t want Saints to have to go to Alice Springs

Reasons for not wanting full strength squad

Want to see the kids play (if not in NAB Cup when?)
Want to give squad best chance of making it through to, and winning, the real GF

I’ll go with the latter noting that we should still be able to field a team that has a real chance of winning through to the second round. :D
