Downtime announcement

Post: # 1032721Post battye »

Firstly, sorry for the inconvenience caused by the downtime. The server has been completely unavailable for around 3 weeks - much longer than it should have been as the webhost appeared to have no contingency plan, including no backup of client websites - so there was no way to get any public messages out. Thanks to those who emailed me or followed on Twitter http://twitter.com/battye where I posted any updates when I received them.

To summarise:
Sorry for any inconvenience caused due to the recent downtime. Due to what I am led to believe was a catastrophic hardware failure, the server that contains Saintsational and many other websites has been offline for the last few weeks. It came back online several days ago, but there were still issues with the database server which meant the forum remained unavailable.

Now it appears that the servers are online again and fortunately no data appears to have been lost. It will take several more days to restore logos and various colour schemes to the website.

Thank you to Mr Magic, saintbrat and theRabbitintheHat for their collaboration and assistance in bringing Saintsational back online.
I'm hopeful the colour scheme will back shortly. I've temporarily disabled registration as the anti-spambot mechanism was lost.

Thanks

Welcome back! :D

Have really missed Sainsational and glad to see it's back.

To be honest Bigfooty is rubbish compared to this sight, but it was the only way to find out what had happened to SS.

Now to begin at the beginning..........

Hi battye, appreciate your efforts! And I hope some kind of compensation is forthcoming from the hosting company.

Good work.
I was getting worried. I visited a few other sites...came across a thread at Big Footy that explained the site was having problems...but there's no Saints site like this one.
Glad it's back. :D

I had a look there and some were not to keen on SS. I did not bother.

to be honest im a little pissed off

we heard completely f*** all from admin
and seeing as we paid for the site an announcement wouldve been nice when the place went down
no cover page which ive been told would have been easy as piss to put up, or an announcement in BF which is obviously where peeps would post, and did

Thanks to all those who fixed the site up.

Matrix, as a critic, perhaps you should offer your services if you think you can do better.
As a point of interest, I've been tuned in to TrueSainters which I must say is excellant - don't have to put up with the "gutter talk" that so frequently appears on SS.

Thanks everyone who helped get SS back online, I am sure it took heaps of effort and co-ordination.

I was on holidays for much of SS being down, and here I was thinking that my time away would be helping get my post count down

So how do we stop this happening again?

Do we go with another service provider?

i did my bit when i chipped in triple figures when donations were required
im saying an announcement by admin could have easily been done in BF
truesainters
or a cover page.

you dont think that people who donated to keep this site going deserve anything?

great work by those that got it up and running again
bravo, tips hat
but ADMIN dropped the ball to all those they asked for money by not keeping people in the loop

so back off...critic

or perhaps a different server?

The way this was handled was slipshod at best.....
