Switched into ruck in the last quarter and nearly turned the game? Am I thinking of the right one?saintbrat wrote:now

Nah, that was at the MCG before 90-odd thousand. Lockett in all honesty shouldn't have played. He was fat and unfit and lacking match fitness, but still kicked six, including a torpedo from about 70 on quarter time. The Vics won that one easily.bigred wrote:Is that the game where he did his groin?
I know it was a SOO game...carried that injury for the rest of his career.
This one was at Footy Park and SA won.

Haha,I love that torp, though you might have put a few meters on it,25 or so.... Have got that one on tape here somewhere, the big man was so unfit at 3qrt time, he launched a torp in the mud...he was only 45 out though, didn't have the energy to kick a drop puntbigcarl wrote:Nah, that was at the MCG before 90-odd thousand. I thought it was quarter time, but you'd be right since you have it on tape.jonesy wrote:Haha,I love that torp, though you might have put a few meters on it,25 or so....bigcarl wrote:Nah, that was at the MCG before 90-odd thousand. The kicks get longer in my memory, but the fat boy doesn't get any less fat. He was fat, but he was good!

I think the torp was at 3 qtr time? He hadn't played for 4 weeks before this game, cos of the McKenna suspension.
He gets better as the years pass
Gave a couple away to Dunstall in the end I seem to remember. But it's a long time ago.

That was also the game where Andy Collins tackled Tony Hall and wrecked his knee...Both Hawthorn team mates.bigcarl wrote:stevie wrote:Actually Plugger kicked 5 in that 89 game, Dunstall kicked 4.

I was at the game and sitting with a Hawks supporter who could see it happening before it actually did...He was devastated!
It was always mixed feelings watching these games...Best footballers playing and always free and open games but the fear of injury to your star player seemed be in the forefront of everyone's mind...Probably why we don't have them now.
