Gwilt leading best and fairest?
On AFL teams Tony Shaw said Gwilt would be leading our b&f. He's had a very good year but surely Fisher and Dal would be ahead.

I reckon Dal Santo is clear in lead with Fisher 2nd. Also i honestly believe Dempster will finish top 5 this year. He is our #1 tagger now and i cant recall the last time his direct opponent has beaten him. Shut down Swan, Murphy, Pearce, Stevie J, Jurrah just to name a few...
1. Nick Dal Santo
2. Sam Fisher
3. James Gwilt
4. Sean Dempster
5. Ben McEvoy
6. Clint Jones
7. Brendon Goddard
8. Leigh Montagna
9. Brett Peake
10. Jack Steven

I reckon Sean Dempster has been very good all year. I cannot recall a game where his opponent has beaten him and been effective.QuestionOfAccuracy wrote:Along with Dal and Fisher, he can say he's been consistently good from round 1. They're the only three that can hold their heads up in that regard.
I also think that Milne has played well all year, with the proviso that it's pretty difficult to impact games as a small forward if the footy isn't getting in there. And there have been a number of games when our F50 entries (both in total and/or quality) have been abysmal.

James Gwilt has proven that intelligent players with above average skills always have a place in the team. Whilst he is not the best one-on-one defender he is a fantastic kick of the ball and a football team can never have enough of.bennymac5 wrote:Not outrageous at all but I think Dal and Fisher would be a fair way ahead but you're right, I can't remember the last time Gwilty had a bad game.
I'd love Gwilt and Dempster to make the top 10.
I'm not sure Jimmy's kicking has been so poor, I still think alot has to do with him receiving handballs this year, when most options have already dried up.
You'd have to say he is one of our nominated kickers from the backline, I'd still rather the ball in his hands than many others.

Jimmy's kicking has been poor this year, but only compared to his own lofty benchmark.SainterK wrote:I'd love Gwilt and Dempster to make the top 10.

No doubt Jimmy is having a very good year. I am a fan of his - he has always been a "quiet achiever."
I am placing Jimmy lower on my list, because those above him have contributed more to the team by way of "inside 50's" and "goal assists."
Jimmy has been great in a mainly defensive only capacity.
Dal Santo (streets ahead).
Goddard
Montagna
Gwilt

steven would be right up there i reckon
played 12 games
averaging 20 disp, 3.8 first possessions, 3.3 clearances, 3 inside 50s, 9 contested possessions, 14 uncontested possessions, 5.4 tackles a game and 4 one percenters a game
dal is just above him in all the above stats
dal is leading imo
steven would have to be at least top 5 i reckon

Interesting plugger. I'd definitely say that Chips has been more consistent than Dal. Otherwise that looks pretty spot on, although Joey, Armo and Rooey wouldn't be that far off Milney (although they all should be)plugger66 wrote:My order at the moment would be

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Some interesting numbers for The Gwilt from the team stats page -
192 kicks for this season - 2nd highest in team.
270 disposals - 7th highest.
76 marks - 3rd highest.
Effective disposal percentage - 84% - 3rd highest.
One-percenters - 41 - 6th highest in team. (Top - 98, by...Zac Dawson!)
A lot of those kicks are sweeps across the back-line. Still, 84% is a handy rate of effective disposal, and I don't feel
nervous when he's got the footy.
