Think Big

Post: # 1149959Post PJ »

Why is it that everyone seems to be going with the "who's the next best coach down from Lyon" mentality.

Why is this not seen as an opportunity to take the next step up. The committee and Board should get on their bikes and be out there upping the ante. Ross took us up one or two notches now lets go all the way.

Why not punt for a coaching panel that looks like this

Coach - Scott Watters
Senior assistant - Rodney Eade
Assistant - Leon Cameron

We adopted a growth mentality by heading towards the peninsula to build our supporter base and develop our sponsorship to a higher level - well good now go and do it or step aside while someone else does.

We need to develop a heavy weight mentality not skulk around like 2nd best.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Hear hear.

Letd get something really good. 5 years ago lyon was just an unknown assistant to his ex team mate who happened to be paul roos.

Now people think he is something special just because he got lucky with an opportunity to coach a great group.

Let's not skulk. Let's get a really good team together like the one mentioned above.

Watters
Eade
Cameron
Milburne

Looks pretty good to me

Costs $$$$$ don't forget. How much have we got to splash around?

Sing it loud and sing it proud but most of all hang around for this club will rise to claim the prize and then we will realise its not such a surprise. :-)

Why would Leon Cameron come to us if Watters gets the job ahead of him assuming that he applies? Why would he come to us anyway if the Hawks are a cert for top 4 contenders while we are probably heading down?

Some strange ideas on this site tonight.

That can't be what the board become fixed on - if there's not enough then they need to find it - they need better sponsorship.

Their focus must be on the best not the left overs.

Saint pav. I agree cameron is a long shot unless he gets the main gig.

But that's 1 from 4. Hardly makes the thread strange or void.

Watters
Eade
Milburne/Cornes
Harvey
Kingsley
King

If we could afford it would be sensational.

Because he needs to be convinced that we are not on the way down - if we followed the direction of your post then no one would want to come to St.Kilda. Why come to to a second rate bottom team. Where were Hawthorn 2 years ago?

There are no Malthouses left in the mix who can demand what they want, so we should be able to make a competitve offer. It's more a matter of getting the right person, than worrying about how much we can "save."

Agree "saving" is exactly what we shouldn't be thinking. Dare to be the best or accept being an also ran.

`i'd be looking at Leigh Tudor as senior coach. Well respected by the club after his stint with us. I'm surprised his name has not been mentioned.

I would choose the best on offer.....

There would hopefully be a set of criteriia they would have to answer to...

Something like

Football
1. Demonstrate ability to explain different structures and game plans that fit the StK FC list
2. Provide evidence of effective implementation of a succesful Game style
3. Provide a list analysis of the stk fc list Discuss ways to develop the stk fc list further
4. Show ability to analyse opposition lists and game styles

Recruiting and Selection
1. Outline their view on a selection process which has integrity
2. What recruiting policy is required at stk fc and why

Alignment
1. How can the stf fc work effectively in partnership with sandringham
2. What role does sandringham play in the stk fc

Personal
1. Provide evidence of successful leadership
2. Give a clear outline of the qualities they have that will make them a successful senior coach at stk fc
3. What is the working relationship senior coach with all depts of the stk fc

Some questions on media relationships....marketing

Scenario and case studies
Play a tape and Ask for the following
Complete a game analysis
a player analysis
Opposition coaching strategy analysis

Choose three random players from the stk fc list in different age groups
Give a thorough review of each player
Strengths and weaknesses
How to improve them, what role suits them

Choose three opposition players who would be a good fit at stk fc and why

Then allow them to show their presentation
Coaching philosiphy

Hey BigMart, you shouldn't be showing a copy of the Saints coaching selection criteria on a public website!

Lucky everyone else already has a coach!
