Ok Sandy play their round 1 a week before us.

What the rules re Saints players who play vs Box Hill fronting for the Saints vs Port?

Be a shame if really good form isn't allowed to be rewarded for round 1 of the AFL season.

If the weather is fine i might go...it's finding somewhere to park that is the issue for me....
I'll take my own chair like i used to do when i went to watch the Scorpions. I was quite a VFL regular back then.

Looks to be pretty clear who Scott Watters has picked Round 1 - in no particular order..

Dempster Gilbert Geary
Cripps Goddard Fisher
Dal Santo Jones Peake
Stanley Riewoldt Siposs
Milne Koschitzke Schneider
McEvoy Hayes Montagna

Steven Ledger ???

Seems to be a bit of the same old same old for me, I really hope we win!

yeah, four injuries (gram, clarke, gwilt, archer) and those twenty not picked in a sandy team. your team looks fairly close and for the last two spots:

defence: simpkin or blake or wilkes
mid/sub: armo or ray or polo

depending on what sort of form each of them show in the twos. simpkin and ray for mine, but all the others still a chance. saad an outside chance as well, maybe.

your team looks pretty spot on warwick.
very small defense. they will probably have to sneak simpkin in. then ray and saad as a super sub.

Same old??? Cripps, Ledger, Stanley and Siposs all with 5-10 games experience and none in the 2nd half of last year. Not enough fresh faces for you?

Isn't round one AFL still another week away? Couldn't any of the players picked for Sandy this week be picked for the seniors next week? In what way does this Sandy team determine what happens in Round 1 next week?

It must a be a coincidence that all the senior players are not playing in the VFL this week.

Problem solved.

Absolutely, there looks to be a spot or two up for grabs. I agree with the poster above as well in the comment that we are v small down back. Perhaps this week is an audition for that last backman/bench tall spot. Blake for mine although it would be great if his 200th was at home.

Any player playing can still be selected in AFL next week as the club has permission from the AFL as they lost a full game and some players need more miles in their legs.

Very interesting. Hope Saad has a ripper game to at least grab the sub spot.

a story from earlier in the week
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/localfo ... 6305074461

and season preview
SANDRINGHAM ZEBRAS

Coach: Simon McPhee (new)

Captain: Beau Dowler (new)

AFL affiliate: St Kilda

Key arrivals: Adam Cockie (West Coast), Beau Dowler (Noble Park), Myke Cook (Adelaide)

Key departures: David Gallagher, James Magner, Matthew Boland

AFL watch: James Hallahan - Brother of Hawk Mitch is a genuine all-rounder. Can mark, kick, read the play and a strong leader. Trained with St Kilda last year.

Coach says: "The competition is all so new to me. I know we lost a few but the ones we've picked up are pretty good, so we're pretty happy and we're trying to play finals footy.''

Sam says: With quality mature recruits, potent scoring power and a healthier Saints alignment the Zebs will be big, big improvers. Watch for Cockie, a jet.

Prediction: 4th (10th)
