means a bit
GC are in for a bad year. Whole team has 2nd year blues. so they will be the victim of some blow outs.

BUT
we have no injuries. our talls are up and about. stanley is a genuine improvement from last year.
milera is a genuine improvement from last year.

AND
the biggest message i took from the game is that the coach is being listened to. he made a big deal about contested possession during the week and the senior guys seemed to listen to him.
Only one in cruise mode so far is joey who needs to pull his finger out and win some contested ball.

In summary - if we have next to no injuries - our 4 talls can trouble people fwd.
and steven and milera and cripps have added the pace we always lacked.

An expected win against pitiful opposition. We put them away nicely but lets wait until we actually beat someone worthwhile before we get too excited

yeah, i have trouble drawing any conclusions at all from today's performance. not sure that even the coach will be able to do much better than that, so i don't expect any changes for next week.

Not like for like, but on today's effort - if we bring polo in, cripps to miss.

Yeah, not overly excited about today. Losing to Port will sting for a long time. We'd have to beat a team like Hawthorn by 10 goals for me to be convinced that was a one-off. I actually think we should have hammered Gold Coast by more having seen how North Melbourne buried GWS.

The best thing about today was seeing some individual performances by some of the younger guys. Like Milera for example, he's shown he's creative and willing to be an attacking player.

what's a pass mark next week, given Bulldogs have been touted as bottom 4 material?

Good to win how we did, 3 really good quarters, one OK quarter.

Contested ball, Tackling, Clearances great.

Rhys may be a football player.

Start Ledger next week.

Must continue next week.

Goddard.

ill just take the 4 points.
win = pass
loss = fail
won by over 5 goals and ill start to think maybe we are a genuine top 6 side.

Agree.

The team effort at pressure was the best thing, and the absence of any real clangers. I liked Jarryn Geary's game. He hit more targets tonight than for all of last year.

Bring on the Bulldogs and we can re-assess from there....Not doing much the Bullies...could be a long year for them...

Doesn't mean we're a gimme game though.

Confidence booster.
We might have played ourselves into some form.

Good experience for the couple of youngsters, and Rhys looked a little better.

Other than that the only other positive is that BJ must have looked at that artificial rabble and thought
"Do I want to be part of a sham like that!".
"Do I want to run around like Garry with a cheque book in my back pocket but no job satisfaction?"
If he realised the answer was "No" then the lopsided debacle was worth it.

You can only beat, what you are against.

However essentially it was a good practice game to allow us to get our structures and ball movements right.

Midfield remains a concern for me though.

We really could have costed and won by 6-7 goals but the fact we pumped them was posative and a big improvment on last season.

Contested effort and the kids, big spread of goalkickers are the biggest ups for mine.

Opposition wasn't much (except for Gazza who is  good), but there were many positives for us. Stanley is getting better with every game, which is fantastic. Milera is exceptionally talented and creative and poised (but has plenty to work on still). Where has he been all our lives? Geary is back to his form of a couple of years ago, before he bulked up and seemed to lose his run. Roo looked like his old self today, energy wise, which is fantastic and seems to be kicking quite well for goal this year. Blake played his best game in a long time, which bodes well for our suspect defence. Our pressuring was very, very good, which is essential to us getting back into contention. Lenny Hayes is back baby! (Wayne Carey gave him the 3 votes) We kicked a big score and didn't try to protect the lead once we got out to a 5 or 6 goal lead. Goddard had 21 possies in the first half, playing on the wing, which is much more pleasing than having a similar number playing loose in defence.

Today was exactly what we needed and while we still have much to work on, it was very very pleasing. We only beat them by 20 points last time, so I'll take 90odd as a positive, thank you very much. Need to back it up next week, though, or today won't mean much.

the only things you could want from today are...
a) no injuries
b) us to win big without ever being challenged

shows us that we're not a complete baske case this season
