some interesting comments in that......

Dermutt was off th money with Goddards big offers from other clubs...AT THAT POINT.............then wouldnt comment if he was now......so yep, Goddards been offered big buck elsewhere.....

Got a genuine sense that Watters is banking on how badly Goddard wants to be a 1 club player and his supposed love for the Saints....and captaincy while not being offered....IMO is there being discussed by Nick etc in the media at a nice time....

interesting that the signings yesterday all stressed the importance of being a 1 club player - think there may be a bit of peer pressure happening here

liked the comments about getting the relativities of the salaries back on track e.g. Geelong has not paid anyone more then $600k

the implication is that you can get more $$$ elsewhere but at St kilda the emphasis will be on the TEAM

Got to agree with this. I think it was interesting that a day or two after Goddard is offered his contract we announce that four players have re-signed. Puts a bit of pressure on him to do the same.

Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.

agree there is an attempt to put team pessure on but rightly so, when you consider what Geelong players like Bartel and co forego to be part of a Premiership side..........we havent gotten their level of success yet still pay a small few way overs IMO.

I heard Cook from Cats speak once and suggest that even with Ablett - the senior leadership team at Geelong at the time agreed to make an exception and allow him to be paid 800-900k (at least 300 above next best paid player) he then said the leadership group (players) signed off on this first but they made it clear to management that any more to Ablett and they were weakening their team values/ethics for the individual. I remember thinking as he said this......wouldnt happen at my club...

Cook also went on to say that Cats cultural change was such that in his view/reign they would take an individual with strong positive personal values over a talented but erratic individual anyday and that Stevie J was extremely close to falling to this.

I like Scott's ability to see more than just the game on game day. He sees his role as a bigger entity than just the guy with a whiteboard. The club will be in a better position with him at the helm.

yeah look afl shouldnt be like the under 10s. to win a flag you really need 10 gun players. Not just one big hero . look at the blues. So revolved around their big hero judd. and i think we have maybe gone a bit far with roos pay (no fault of roo himself by the way). if u want to have 10 guns then its pretty obivous u will need a flatter structure under the TPP rules.
if i was a gun player like a joel corey or a steve johnson and had 2 flags and7 years hard yakka beneath my belt id be pretty pissed off if someone came in on 800k. id be like ok he gets twice my pay ill try half as much.
