We basically won that game

Post: # 1433615Post sainterinsydney »

If you consider the players that didn't play--Gwilt, Dempster, Riewoldt, Schneider, Gilbert, Fisher, Lee, Hayes--and the fact the Dogs basically played their best team, I think we did extremely well. I don't understand why the commentators were going on about how far ahead the Dogs are.

agree was great hearing the 2nd Q rally on 3AW type of game the young boys needed before the real stuff starts... couldn't give a F^%k that we lost just good to hear some young boys getting into it.

The wet weather will always favour the more senior and experienced team.

Who was better - their young players or our young players ?

If people think our older players are going to come back and win games for us like its 2009 again they are going to be very disappointed.

No judge them on their merits . Why delist Th best power fwd in the comp?
Why are you a knob ?

But the class of 09 are not going to save our 2014 season .

Dogs were missing Grant , Griffen and Murphy off the top of my head - all guns.

Grant a gun? He has played about 5 good games in 6 years.

If half our team tonight won't be playing round one doesn't that mean the match is still irrelevant?

Grant is an inconsistent forward who if he had not have had a few decent games towards the end of last season was heading for the scrap heap.

Going by the Billings quote, Grant must be soft as he went to The Peninsula School. Come to think of it Tom Curren also went to the Peninsula School and played at Mt Eliza so he must be soft.

Grant a gun and Billings a dud after half a game where he had 40% game time, thanks for the comic relieve to tonight.

Also...The Doggies players are based on the other side of town to us which means they don't need to go over the Westgate. Saints were always going to struggle playing so far from home. In other words; Geelong is geographically challenged!!

Hilarious all right.for starters the peninsula ain't the city .for seconds the dogs had another 5 out I didn't even name.

And grant is a gun - get ready for it.was a stand out in their late season form last year.

He is 24 yo. How are our 24yo travelling ?

oh that's right we don't have any.

But don't worry fisher and gwilt and Dempster and Lenny are going to come back and dominate and we will be top 4!

We had 21 new faces and a lot if them were kids so all in all a very good hit out. Save for a very very slow start which is a bit of a concern since we started some games pretty slowly last year.

Yes we will struggle this year however the signs look positive. As we all know preseason is not really taken that seriously by most clubs. Melbourne fans will enjoy the win (my Dad sent me a text message saying "look out the Dees are coming") but it means virtually nothing apart from that.

Con what schools are in the city? peninsula is in a suburb of Melbourne. Dont weaken on your silly point now. if thats the case then Scotch doesnt count either. That isnt in the city. Caulfield grammer isnt in the city. Surely you have lost the plot.

Have no idea what our 24 year olds have to do with Grant but Jack maybe 24. Think he has Grant covered. Grant is not a gun. he maybe one this year but at the moment he wouldnt be in the WB top 10 but we all get used to your quotes. 2 rippers tonight. Think the school one maybe your best.

I reckon they were missing four 100 gamers:

Giansiracusa (31, 250 games)
Murphy (31, 249 games)
Griffen (27, 183 games)
Higgins (25, 109 games)

Plus Williams, Grant, Roughead and Jones who've played between 50 and 100. We were missing seven:

Hayes (34, 277 games)
Riewoldt (31, 259 games)
Schneider (29, 200 games)
Fisher (31, 191 games)
Dempster (30, 160 games)
Gilbert (27, 140 games)
Gwilt (27, 109 games)

I don't know if that means much for our performance, but there's no doubt we have more quality to come back into the team than they do.

Okay, Con, I think it is way too early to be calling Grant a gun. He played 3 or 4 good games last year, but other than that he has done stuff all. Maybe wait until he's a more consistent performer before you can call him a gun.

As for the result, I was just happy that they were competitive with Dogs who I think will well and truly eclipse us this year.
