the Man- Child - Dunstan

Post: # 1437746Post saintbrat »

Luke Dunstan is getting himself noticed
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-03-09/d ... ooks-ready
AFTER another eyebrow-raising performance from St Kilda's Luke Dunstan, this time against Port Adelaide in Saturday's practice match, coach Alan Richardson declares he's ready to debut.

Dunstan's inside game was sensational against the Power, collecting 20 disposals and eight clearances as the Saints dominated stoppages with 50 clearances to 29.

The 19-year-old South Australian also booted a goal in his side's narrow nine-point loss.

He managed 22 disposals in St Kilda's heavy loss to Greater Western Sydney on March 1 and Richardson said he had proven himself worthy of an AFL debut, possibly against Melbourne in round one.
http://www.saints.com.au/video/2014-03- ... ke-dunstan

and as he has a mature body and experience in leadership he is standing out.... ( how many yearss before he becomes ' the old man' on look alone.

this is in contrast with the little seen Blake Acres who still gives the appearance of being young,-

Hate these future bets, but have to have some of that, ridiculous odds on current showing. Clearly in the top 3 performed so far on what we have seen. If he brings that into the real stuff then he has to be there abouts

You prefer betting on things that have already taken place? Me too! But it's hard to find a bookie who'll take the bet.

I think that it's pretty creepy to use the expression "man-child".
Sounds a bit Alan Jones to me.

Apparently we have only Armo in the midfield.
According to one troll who only showers once each year, and whose nick is a goal-kicking legend.
So, Dunstan could well be icing on the cake.
Who says we'll finish bottom?
I'm on record as saying we'll snag 32 points in 2014 (8wins)

How is that confusing to you?
Maybe hes a poor swimmer as the first game was played underwater in a lake.
Hes also 18 - so pretty much everyone looks slow in the first game because they havent adjusted to the step up in speed.

Dunstan and Webster have been two really positive signs from the pre season.

Will be putting some money on Dunstan for rising star at $34, he's one of about 4 or 5 of the "rising stars" that will play nearly every game.

He is slow and one paced but that doesn't mean those who made that comment have written him off as a player. His lack of pace was the knock on him during the draft and a big part why he was considered a late first round-early second round selection.

We took the punt on him and hopefully it pays off like players with similar deficiencies (and qualities) such as Josh Kennedy and Tom Rockliff have with their clubs.

Personally I reckon we've got ourselves a sure thing who won't ever be elite but a very solid contributor capable of being a major component to a quality side. A very low risk selection that we needed to make and should pay off.

Was b & f in 2013.

I remember in the pre draft interviews dunstan reckons he plays like Scott Thompson - which is good enough for me. If you can remember back a few years when Thompson was an absolute gun for small period.

Speaking of Thompson - he is one I forgot Melbourne lost. Adds more to my theory that the idea 'Melbourne lost all their experienced players which is why they are s***' is a complete myth. One of footy biggest myths.

The reason Melbourne (one of anyway) are/were s*** is they lost all their players at their peaks in their mid 20s. They didnt lose a bunch of old blokes but a bunch of blokes at peak age. This is what really murdered them.

Thompson - 22
Scully - 19
Maloney - 26
Rivers - 25
Mclean - 25

(I guess the lesson is we should be very cautious in trading out Armo. )

ST left Adelaide in about 2003... They played finals twice after he left? He went home....

Matt Priddis is a good player imo

Talk English BM - Thompson left Melbourne at the end of 2004 and the age of 21 (is that what you were trying to say)?

People want to know why Melbourne were crap 2009-2013 - and I just named 7 players who left in their early and mid 20s in the last 9 years - hence its a myth that they 'got rid of all their experience in one chop' - what killed them was getting rid of/losing blokes in their early-mid 20s . My hypothesis is solid.

Yes Matt Priddis is a good player but I dont think he plays exactly like Dunstan. Not too dissimilar but not identical.

Priddis isn't a bad comparison for Dunstan neither is Joel Selwood (would love him to be half as good as Selwood). The good thing about Dunstan is he's a ball winner so I expect him to cope with a tag and hold his form throughout his career, unlike blokes like Palmer and Pearce who had breakout years only to become very average once they received attention.
