Your 3, 2, 1 fave players that YOU give votes to

Post: # 1456794Post SainterK »

Terry Wallace did this on SEN the other day, and I enjoyed it...

It's your 3, 2, 1 best saints that YOU rate.

No right or wrong answers, it doesn't have to be the best or greatest ability, just your faves to watch for your own reasons.

It can be based on the last 10 years but feel free to wind the clock back.

I'm finding it hard to go past the young guns at the moment they are inspiring .

1 Eli love his determination. Giving a vote to Webster as well.

2 Dunstan what a debut

3 Billings he has that aura that may well see him as a future captain.

The future is here.

Heard it and it was good listening
I'm 33 so will only comment on what I saw like they did
One vote Winmar for sheer brilliance
Two votes to Roo for sheer awesomeness
Three votes to Plugger for making me jump up and down running around the house (Sydney match).
Sorry Harves

As a kid I went to the Junction Oval (and then Moorabbin) to se the wizardry of Doc - 3 votes
In the late 80's I was in awe of Plugger's power and ability - 2 votes
Over the past 15 years I have been amazed by the sheer athleticism of Roo - 1 vote

Plus the countless other Saints who have made supporting St Kilda a passion and a pleasure.

3: Lenny Hayes obviously because he's just loveable.

2: Maxie Hudghton because he always played undersized and was still almost impossible to beat.

1: Davy Grant because he wore number 6 and that was my number in junior days.

Also: Milney, Banger and Tony Brown.

Have to agree

newnes and curren look the goods
And i'm really looking forward to see mav and blakey tomorrow !

Saying that if we were able to pick up a young anthony lockett in next years draft , i'd be happy as he is clearly the best player i've seen play for us .

Its hard to rate them but of the top of my head:
3. Kosi when he had his (unfortunately temporary) periods of brilliance filled my head with dreams of him being the dominating power CHF that would lead us to the holy land
2. Rooey when he took those reaching marks that Cometti described as like "a boy reaching for the last apple on the tree". Ahhhhh...so beautiful
1. I always loved Aussie Jones sliding precision kicks slicing his way out of the back. He was like a quarter back throwing laser passes.
Special mention: Joey's long bomb goals that brings the crowd to life

3 trevor barker - amazing player and I had the biggest crush on him when I was in high school
2 nicky winmar
1 robert harvey

so hard to choose as I have loved watching saints players over the years and could so easily put another 20 on the list

I must say I like the fact that the conversation was about favorite players and not the best.
I think ranking the players in order of who is best is quite universal with people's opinions where as people's favorite is just so random and I even enjoyed listening to the other clubs supporters ring in too.

Lockett, George Young, Graham Gellie/Rod Owen.

Apologies to Harves', Rooey, Greg Burns and Con Gorozidis.

PS: Lucky for me that there's no wrong answers on this one.

Given we're transitioning to a new era, I'm moving towards a fairly simple construct i.e. in varying orders according to performance;

Jack #1
Jack #2
Jack #3

Always been happy with 3 Jacks.

Historically;

Doc
Banger
The Dog

favourite players I have LOVED watching ... wow that is hard.

3 votes: Plugger (still marked it with 3 hanging off him)
2 votes: Banger (could wrong foot 3 players in one weave)
1 vote: Lenny (nobody else has gone so hard for so long)

Apologies to Barks (best mark and tackle for his size), Neil Elvis (for his sheer brilliance), George Young for his goal kicking brilliance, cowboy Neale for his toughness and hangers AND Con Gorozidis ... because he used to take his species vertical to the pack and kick around corners for 3 brilliant years, about 30 games at an average of over 2 goals a game. I hear his disco work wasn't bad either.

OMG how could I forget Robert M.D. Muir! Will never forget how he beat Keith Greg in those brownlow years. YOU would be mad too if you were constantly abused like he was ...

It's got me scratching my head, I can't see any of them not being good enough at this early stage. I know we're all guilty of wearing rose coloured glasses, but they all debut and look extremely comfortable at this level.

Does it speak to the recruiters, the developers, or the character of the kids concerned?

Maybe a little of all 3.
