Time to Play White

Post: # 1478042Post SaintWodonga »

White showed a bit yesterday, although not best on ground, I feel it's time to bring him in and see what he's got. Why not play Bruce upforward as well? We are not taking marks in the forward 50 (also due to poor delivery), so it could not hurt to develop them, it's not like we are doing well. A bit of White X factor may just give us a little sparkle of hope.

Not many current players that played today are working hard for it either.

They could give White a taste of AFL so that he knows exactly where he's at, might help him strive.

IF we had a midfield playing ok you might give White a taste.

Roo, Stanley and Billings all gave repeated leads, and only in the second quarter was delivery half-way decent.

But we have a midfield group that cannot hit barn doors at present.

White struggles to stay in the game enough as it is. In the seniors he would be crucified.

White gets better delivery playing for Sandy development than he would be the Saints.

White is beginning to remind me of Jackson Ferguson.

I reckon get him 3 or 4 Senior games - tell him he has to work his butt off for 4 weeks. Then finish his season in mid-August.

Needs another big pre-season now his wrist is healed.

Get him in, he'll stand up. The only way is up, for all involved.

Has had 2 interrupted preseasons, and has missed many games due to injury this year, so his fitness is not sufficient for AFL level.

He needs a proper preseason and he needs to show some consistency in the VFL before being promoted.

And could be a big reason for Bruce's omission too, maybe the Pelican in the box is proving to be effective afterall???

I agree entirely, nothing much left for the season besides at least blooding some of the young players for the rest of the year.

i understand that he has injuries and perhaps attitude problems but what's the harm in giving him a go? i don't buy 'he has to earn it' , opposition teams will be clambering all over him for his signature if we let him leave the club

I watched the game today on TV here in NZ and was thinking this exact thing. Even if he's not ready what harm is it going to do. Play him and tell him he won't be dropped for the rest of the year just like the doc told Harves. TDL had 3 Quarters and showed that he's taking someone's spot. Dunnell had a quarter for a possession. Weller smashed Gibbs and showed that Jones isn't required as a tagger and with his lack of kicking skills I'm of the opinion he's another we can thank for their contributions as we show them door and look to the future. Time to play White indeed. We lost to a poor team today by 85 points. Nuff said.

That's where we are at. Get the games into the young fellas. It's a shame Sipposs hurt his shoulder this weekend as I'd give him a decent go too.

If we wanted to throw the baby out with the bath water we could look at trading Monty who did okay on curtailing Murphy early but struggled to have any influence after that but that's probably going too far, though there is a part of me that thinks so what...we can't beat anyone anyway and he's not going to be part of our next tilt.

We are as bad as the late 80s. Sad to say.

Would not play him at this stage. Maybe late in the season if he keeps improving.

Just a little while ago White was being talked about as a delistee during an injury preseason.

Now a couple of good games in a row and everyone is back on.

He's a great talent and a real footballer in terms of marking and reading the play.

He'll be a beauty!

They could give him a game but he'd get found out badly lacking the body strength and mental toughness needed for AFL.

Could one game set him back or motivate him to improve over the preseason? I fear the former.

He's not early twenties and in theory ready like Lee or TDL.

Didn't the coach say recently he'd like to get a few games into White by season's end? Or did I misinterpret it?

I took this line from a post game summary from Alan Richardson,

He said Spencer White could get a senior opportunity "sooner than perhaps he normally might" given their situation.

I think i'll go with Richardson's opinion re White and when he makes his debut.

He certainly might - Tom Lee's gone/going in for shoulder surgery and Richo said both Siposs and Maister might also after their injuries yesterday. Otherwise, as he said, we're looking at Rhys, Bruce, and Longer and Hickey (didn't mention Simpkin so I dare say that experiment is done).

Blundstone arena might not be the best place to debut White.
I say get rid of Gwilt and bring in Bruce
Then if White has another good game play him at Etihad.

Yes, he should get a couple of games this year. Against Gold Coast at Metricom, or the Bulldogs at Etihad would be the "softest" introductions for him.

Not appropriate against North or Fremantle.
