How's Rhys Stanley going?

Post: # 1533928Post White Winmar »

Anyone heard how Rhys is going? He's not made an appearance in the NAB series and I was wondering if he's injured again. If he can't break into the Geelong team at this stage, maybe pick twenty one as compensation (Hugh Goddard) will prove a massive win for us. Thoughts?

Aren't Geelong pretty light on with rucks? I think they identified that as an area holding them back. With Mitch Clark and Hawkins as power forwards you'd guess Rhys would be in line to ruck and push forward. He could also push up to the wings as a link up forward and have Clark as that close-to-goal bomb it in option when nothing else is on.

I guess its a calculated risk from Geelong to trade away their top pick if they feel they can have another tilt at a flag with Bartel, Johnson, Selwood, Hawkins, Taylor, Stokes et al still there. Surprised they didn't keep Chapman if they thought they could have another flag tilt but I guess they felt they couldn't keep both Johnson and Chapman's aging legs.

He wasnt their top pick. Nakers Cockatoo was their top pick.
They used the pick they got from Alan Christensen on Rhys.
If you look at their ruck stocks they don't really have anything if McIntosh goes down and he is 30.

I expect Rhys to play a handful of good games in the next two years and this place to erupt as people say we made a mistake and Rhys is going to be the next Polly Farmer.
But I also expect Rhys to be de-listed in 3 years just as Goddard comes good and becomes a gun.

He certainly seems to lack a bit of physicality but who know maybe Geelongs production line footy factory will belt that into him. And Rhys might benefit from not having to live up to being superstar Rooey Mark 2 and Rooey can stifle other forwards a bit. Sometimes being traded gives you that boot up the arse you need to be more proactive.

I wondered over to the BF Geelong board to dig about this topic and I have to say that they're not talking about him much

The general sense seems to be Mitch Clarke is doing really well and likely to play as a forward and hence if Rhys has a spot in the team, it'll be as a ruck that rotates with Mitch, and rests down forward I think

They needn't worry. They won 3 flags in 5 years and still are a decent side

Yeah, great ability which was wasted from having a meek on field temperament. Was glad to see the back of him.

Oh well, it turned out to be Goddard for Stanley. We'll know who's the winner of that trade in a couple of years. Until then, it's all quite irrelevant

Goddard for Stanley and Cunico. I haven't watched any cats games so I don't know how he's going.

And I was one of those. He frustrated the hell out of me. But if he can turn it all around at Geelong, then I'll tip my to him.

Looks like we'll be able to trade him back for a token late pick and he'll slot in nicely for us as Tom Lee's replacement.

Pathetic thing to say. How many games of football did you ever play Mr Courage?
