Essendope and Hawthorn only drew 60k.
We don't have a great record of turning up at the G.
I'm thinking more like 46k. Mostly skunks.

I reckon close to 70,000 because our members didn't turn up to our first game and last week was in GC.

I think our win against Gold Coast will probably draw a larger crowd than first expected, so for that reason I will go for 52,123.

Weird that only 30-odd thousand turned up to Etihad last weekend to see Pies-Crows.
Guess they don't like the place either.
Anyway, expecting a few more Pies fans to turn up at the MCG on their home patch.

Really?

I don't think many of any Greeks/Italians think wog is a bad word.

Maybe you're stuck in the 1950's when it was!

Maybe you should walk into an Italian or Greek restaurant and call the owner a wog and see how you're greeted?

Quite often it's a term of endearment IF it comes from a person they know well, OR they are talking about each other to each other. Much like the N word between African Americans is considered jocular amongst people of similar colour but not acceptable if a caucasian person tried it on.

Where does the word 'wog' come from? Germ? In the 70's and 80's it wasn't often used by Caucasians as a term of endearment (even if they thought it was)

A very close Italian friend of mine recently told me that when we were growing up he laughed along every time I and others called him a wog, but on the inside he was cut to the bone. He said it made him feel stupid and less than equal to the rest of the 'Aussies' that said it.

So I think it's you that is stuck in the 1950's.

Not really sure which way to jump with the allegation that SP is being racist using the term "Wog".

When I was growing up for sure it was a derogatory term that we used completely without awareness of it's inherent racism.

Then there was a period when the word went a lot more out of use as Italian and Greek people began to have second and third generation kids and they became more integrated into Australian culture.

Then in the 90's Nick Giannopolous made a whole series of shows and even a film. One show was actually called, "Wogboys". It was as though we'd come full circle with use of the term.

Personally I reckon that someone like me, a white Aussie with Anglo ethnicity, needs to be careful about referring to Italians and Greeks as "wogs'. I wouldn't do it because it feels disrespectful. But whether SP using the term is racist.....personally I don't like it, but I think it's a subjective thing.

It's pretty simple… st.byron.

Is it okay to use the word nigger because some African Americans do?

No.

I don't think the term POM has the same history of racial vilification like WOG does, but if someone is also offended by it's use they should report it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wog
Wog is a slang word in the idiom of Australian English and British English, usually employed as an ethnic or racial slur and considered derogatory and offensive.

saintspremiers has form here so I'm not buying "it's all in good fun" angle.

its actually POME
not pom
and its as bad as wog nigger whatever

but tbh i couldnt give a shite about either word
i just find it funny watching people jump up and down about one word and then use one just as bad a week later

scientologists use the word wog to describe everyone that is not in their group....worldly other gentleman or some rubbish
which they say isnt racist...lol its the same meaning, outsider
lol
