Jesse Hogan and Paddy McCartin

Post: # 1544057Post FQF »

No, not a comparison. This article highlights just how important it is to nurture big forwards and to get them ready for the contest. The proof is in the pudding, with Hogan instantly dominating in his first season playing in the big league. I'm not convinced it's in Paddy's interests to play more than a sprinkle of games this year.

How did Melbourne get Hogan as I couldn't find him in the drafts.
Was it compensation for losing Scully?
Also interested how they recruited McDonald.

They got him off GWS in the mini draft. That's how he landed on their list when he was still 17.

Geez Hogan looks a serious player. Is pretty much Melbourne's best player already, and probably the best players they've had since Neitz..

Whilst he looks very good, goes to show how crap they've been.

Best player! Aren't you forgetting about their super star no1 draft pick Jack Watts.

What about the two young Co-Skippers Trengove and Grimes?

But Hulk Hogan does look very good.

One big difference.

Hogans been in the system for two years already. Granted he had back issues for on eyear, but he's had two years bulking up in an AFL gym under the guidance of AFL players and training staff. Paddy is in his first year. Paddy v McCartin v Daniher over the next 10 years will be amazing

Cameron, Lynch, Boyd too. Plenty of big forwards going round.

Not a comparison as mentioned in the OP.

However, Hogan did win the Casey VFL B&F in his first year, slightly younger than Paddy is now, after kicking 40 odd goals in barely over a dozen matches played. An enormous effort for a barely 18 year old.

If Paddy gets close to that this year we'd be literally renaming this forum.

FWIW I'm a huge fan of McCartin and think he has done a lot to like in his short time at our club. Im sure they'll both be great players. The Hawks were never too worried about not having Lockett when they had Dunstall.

Melbourne gave GWS picks 3 and 13
GWS gave Melbourne Dom Barry, pick 20 and the mini-draft pick
