Good pick up. It's amazing how fast the forward takes his shot for goal and how quickly they restart after a goal. And I love the ad at the bottom of the screen.

Umpire is crucifying us. The point posts are tiny and the boundary umpires still run the ball back to the centre the same they do now.

I'm trying to get the orientation of the ground and it looks like there are terraces where Richmond station now is. Would that be right?

I'm pretty sure that's the other side of Punt Road.

Okay thanks for that - Oval running in a north/east to south/west direction. I get it now. :)

TV stations (2, 7 and 9) were able to broadcast the last quarters of matches live in 1958 and judging by the 33,000 who attended this game, at that time it was not affecting attendances (early in the season and a fine day). However, attendances dropped in 1960, largely due to weather factors. Grounds, except the MCG, had very little in the way of shelter for patrons. So, when it rained you got wet and the ground under your feet got muddy. The (then) VFL stopped live broadcasts in 1961 and they only partially returned (for H&A games) in 1982 when South moved to Sydney. People in Melbourne still do not have access to live broadcasts on FTA TV of all games (most Saturday afternoons), although this has more to do with protecting Foxtel that any effect on the crowds.

I note that, of the people playing in Round 3 1958, only one from either side made it to the respective GF wins in '66 and '67 - Alan Morrow and Fred Swift.

I brought an EK from Kevin Dennis in the sixties. Is that close enough.

That was the first year I followed the Saints when I was 10 y.o.
I don't remember that game but I remember a game against the Tigers at Junction Oval in 1959 or 1960 where we kept them to only 8 behinds for the match.
It wasn't wet -fine and sunny if I remember right and we kicked something like 12 goals 9 to win by 70 odd points.

Round 16, 1961
St Kilda 12.19
Richmond 0.8

Still the last time a team went goalless in a game and has only happened that once in the last 100 years. So, it would be safe to say that only 20,600 people have ever seen it happen. I was there that day.

I think it was Mark Arceri who kept that record in tact for us when he kicked a goal for Carlton, I believe , a few years back.

I correct myself, it is actually in the last 94 years. I forgot about a rather poor 0.18 effort by a certain club in 1921.
