Billy Who?

Post: # 1574356Post Saint_J »

Sorry Billy, if anyone is trade bait you might be in-front atm.

Holmes great first game... did alot better then i had expected. can only see upside!
Hickey excellent game. still can't understand why he played so much in the VFL.

Tap work by Holmes unreal. great to see so many to our advantage. will only get better.

This is Ruck combo i hope to see continuing.

BiG Mart still hating on him?

Hickey should never have been out of the side. Very impressed with Holmes. Awesome leap on him.

Holmes has a lot of upside but I don't think much came from his hit outs. I would have played Hickey all year.

For Holmes first game was incredible. Needs to learn to read the play a bit more but that takes years to master.

Hickey has been marking everything the last few weeks making him a much better forward than longer.

Huge call by st kilda to make. Keep them all and the one who plays Vfl might lose value. I think they will keep them all at least 1 more season but should be interesting.

To be fair he hasn't played a full on match with these blokes, a season playing with armitage and Steven and those taps can become more effective. Just seeing him get his hand up there first is the major win.

I could be wrong, but I don't recall any of Minch's goals coming from a stoppage.

Hickey was good, especially around the ground, not much in the centre. Billy still no.1.

Holmes better than expected but a lot to learn

He also said Billy will need shoulder surgery.

7 to direct advantage against his more experienced opponents 4
Thought for his first game we looked ok
Coach mentioned first time we've been that dominant in that area all year with 9.1 from stoppages (more than Cats) so Holmes did something right but round the ground lots to learn

This is why it is great to have three good rucks.

Exactly. We have plenty of others to delist. It's not like 3 rucks are taking up either much salary cap or vital list space at this stage.

I guess the stats don't lie. But on those occasions when he got up very high, we didn't take advantage.
He did give one deft tap from a boundary throw in over the back to Roo.

It was the ideal compeditor for Holmes, Blixarse is a clean steeplechaser, whereas Sandilands and Mumford and strong bodied monsters

Excellent game from Tom and Jason.

Ridiculous that Tom hasn't played, very clever footballer.

Armo is going to enjoy Jason's palming of the footy when back...

I think Hickey is our best ruckman because of his excellent marking and work around the ground.
Holmes is great in the ruck but really struggles to make any impact around the ground - but he's learning, improving and trying hard so there is potential upside there.
But for now you'd go for Longer (if fit) ahead of Holmes.

Don't forget we also have the extremely mobile and high leaping Lewis Pierce in the wings as well.

But good luck to the big man. A promising debut.
I'm sure he felt the "love" from our fans tonight and that will inspire him to a big preseason and big future.

The good news is with four potential high standard ruckman where many clubs are struggling to have one top line ruckman, is that we should be able to trade one of them in 2017 for an AA type midfielder as we top up towards our finals surge.

We're allowed to have 3 AFL level rucks on our list you know...we don't have to trade any of them. And we shouldn't.

Of course we're allowed.

The point is if they are all afl level, 1 won't be playing leading to them requesting a trade if they feel they could play at top level at other clubs and us getting bent over at the trade table.

Still think we have another year to play with as Holmes probably won't be demanding a spot every week next year.
