Channel 7 like these games to finish right on 6pm for the news.
Longest for the last few years!

I was there today, I think every quarter went past 35 mins

Probably because there were a few goals kicked by both teams for once.

Probably since that last quarter at that Carlton game at PP
when they waited till Carlton kicked the goal to put them in front then blew the siren.

I think it was about 37 minutes.
The Caarlton timekeeper had tied up the StKilda timekeeper up so he couldn't press the button.

Wasn't it Mil (the freak) Hanna who took a mark but got cleaned up and Fraser Murphy took the kick?
(or was it the other way around?).

Agree it was one of the most frustrating games ever, especially as we hadn't won there since the early 60s.

Just checked my Foxtel recording. It stops with five and a half minutes to go.

That match reinforced my opinion formed at the 1971 GF that the footy gods were truly against us and had decided we only needed one happy moment in our footy lives and would never get another one ! Did Rod Owen have a good game that day , maybe kicking the goal that put us 7 points clear after 33 minutes? I also recall Tom Alvin - and yes, Mil Hanna- helping them get over the line.

I can't recall Fraser Murphy in that game, but I remember one game at Princes Park when he was in the magoos , and I gave it to him from behind the goals at the scoreboard end , telling the hack to go back to Geelong West, and actually got a reaction out of him. Highlight of an otherwise abysmal day out there - back in those days there wasn't much else to excite about, except for Plugger.

Speaking of Mil Hanna, I am sure this has been covered before on this website, but I saw the entirety of Warnie's one game for the Saints reserves ,at Moorabbin, with Hanna playing on him and running off him at will.

If quarter, half and three quarter time breaks are added together that's 32 minutes (5 + 20 + 7)

The game finished at 6.11 so total elapsed time is 171 minutes (3.20pm start)

Makes it about 139 minutes total.

Adding your three timed quarters gives 102 minutes - not sure if the last quarter could've gone 37 minutes, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was 35 minutes
