New Zealand Take II 2017

A DELEGATION of AFL and St Kilda officials will this weekend inspect the Auckland ground where the Saints hope to play a NAB Challenge game next year.

AFL officials Thea Salter (broadcast) and Scott Taylor (venues) and St Kilda chief operating officer Ameet Bains will assess the suitability of an oval at the QBE Stadium precinct in Auckland’s North Shore.

The Saints are desperate to play more games in New Zealand and hope a proposed Auckland cricket stadium to be built by 2018 might see them return to hosting home-and-away clashes there.

Good, we should get our Anzac Day game back as a priority.

Auckland has heaps of kids participating in Auskick. There is a genuine interest in AFL in that city

Wow. Not much money to be gained until 2018.

Meanwhile GC will pocket $600K playing Port in China next year

I think the NZ experiment is worth pursuing. We'll be playing sexier footy so hopefully that will help

Winning even one practice match over there would help

For a one off exhibition game with no serious long term benefit...other than respiratory the they contract. NZ is a much better business decision as it has immediate penetration into a potentially receptive market. If only we could win a freakin' game there...it's been like Tassie all over again up to now!

That would be great, however I think there is sometimes a problem with school holidays around Anzac Day. I think one of the reasons for the dwindling numbers in Wellington was the school holiday period. Many families away, reason for very few youngsters attending also. Really need to have the young kids attending, if we want to grow in NZ....oh and ofcourse to WIN.......... youngsters these days only seem to like winners.

It was yanked by Wellington.

Have you got up too early or not been to bed yet?

Great news.
As I have said in the past, NZ will secure the Saints place in the AFL for the long term. IMHO the Saints should play a NAB challenge game there in Feb and a home game on ANZAC day (April 25) for the next 5 years. Then down the track we should also look at playing another home game in late July/early August.

Typical Herald-Scum. Can't even read their articles online. Will not be subscribing to a newspaper which makes people's IQ plummet.
