The last four rounds stuffed it for him.

Do we care about umpires, commentators, or other flogs who don't rate our guys?
I don't care, as long as we crush Carlscum, get over Geelong, demoralise the Dees and lasso the Lions

Just because he didn't get in, doesn't suddenly mean the award means nothing. Many players have bonuses attached to their contracts and winning AA selection is one of those bonuses.

Club B&F obviously the most important award a player can win - but as far as league awards go, this, for mine is just about the most prestigious. The Brownlow is a midfielders award and I expect Jack to poll really well in that as well.

I believe that Jack should have been AA, but it's incredibly tough to break into the team as a mid. His disposal can let him down, and if splitting hairs this is what may have cost him. I would expect that Boyd was picked as a backman so not really taking Jack's spot.

+1

Yes unlucky, but realistically which midfielder would he replace

IMHO Roo not making the top 40 was a bigger travesty.

Was a lock with 5 rounds to go. Played 4 very quiet games in a row and was good in the final game. That's what cost him.

Not sure what more Lachie Neale could have done either. His numbers where phenomenal.

Indeed. They have short memories. His first half of the year was vintage Roo. Steven's non-selection in the team is a disgrace. Second in the league for inside 50's, behind only Dangerfield. 28 possessions per game, 11 clearances. With figures like that, how did he not get a gig? I know stats can mislead, but I'd love to see how the outputs of some of the incumbents stack up against his.

Jack plays some great footy, but there's a few quality mids ahead of him, and he did lose his edge in the last handful of games when he let himself get tagged out of the contest a bit too easy IMO. I though Membrey would have been a handy AA forward.

Neale should have been in before both Boyd and Steven. Steven did slow down last 4 games, but Boyd missed games with Injury during the year also, Everyone remembers the last 3-4 games.
Great break out year

Matty Boyd massive lols

Lachie Neale deserved a spot on the bench at least, nearly broke the record for most disposals in a season by any player

Yup but our old tom lynch made the 40 with just about every stat lower than nicks. AA no credibility

AA is officially a novelty accolade. The AFL will be wearing egg on their faces when someone ends up winning the Brownlow after not even being selected for AA.

We may as well have a system where the fans vote, like they do for selection of the All Star teams.

Mathew Boyd - what a farce...it may as well have been Tom Boyd.

Riewoldt a bigger omission

On the bench... A player who can come on and take marks fwd/mid or Behind the footy!!!

He'd be my third picked... A a shoe in for captain!!! Easily the best in the afl IMO
