Didn’t watch it. I’ve taped the replay at 10.30

So will he have to retire?

Sounds bad.

Thought he was a good player for us.

He's cooked . unfortunately very sad ..just a great reminder that footy is dangerous ...if you think some players are soft ..they are probably not they are just in preservation mode ..so sad to see .

So what's the story?

8th concussion early in the season.

virtually unable to leave his house- unable to go to the club because even walking up the stairs exacerbates a headache,
can't study- so can't complete these whilst off,

Has been told it WILL improve but for now in a bad way, they mentioned that he woke with extreme headache this morning but was determined to go in and do the interview.

Just saw some of it.

I don't know what to say.

I cannot imagine what he is going through.

Would have an impact on morale, methinks.

Paddy should retire too. Seven concussions already. Got to think long term.

poor fella - simply has to give the game away - you'd hope insurance would pay out future loss of earnings and the club and afl gives him all the help he needs going forward.

Don’t know if anybody here ever followed the wrestling back in the day...

This very much reminds me of what happened to Bret “The Hitman” Hart. After finally getting to the top of the mountain at WCW, which took an exceedingly long time considering where he came from, he was put into a program with Goldberg and they headlined the biggest PPV of the WCW year: Starcade.

During the main event, he got this stiff kick to the head and got a concussion as a result. He worked through the match and then continued to wrestle for a few more weeks taking something like 20 panadol/aspirin etc for headaches. Shortly thereafter the guy essentially had to retire because of the damage he did to himself because he continued to work whilst not having allowed himself to heal from the initial concussion.

A shocking story about a great athlete cut down in his prime

And Freeman too. Guy just can't take a trick. We traded a high draft pick for him as well.

Whilst retiring early is definitely no good for the player (but they have to look after themselves first and foremost), retiring early due to an injury suffered while playing the game should get the same priority pick as a free agent leaving would. In some cases you could be losing a really valuable player which you then need to replace with a new player way down the draft order.

Poor bloke is out of contract come end of season.

If we can sign up Richo for 2 years last year surely we can offer him a rookie contract next year.

That was probably the most courageous sports interviews I’ve ever seen.

The bloke needs us not just this year but next year as well, even if he doesn’t play.

Heart-breaking interview. Fingers crossed that Koby recovers ASAP.

Just horrible. To see him constantly scratching at his arms and shoulders and twitching was awful to watch. The courage that he shows to play (all AFL footballers are brave in my opinion) is crazy; but doing the interview was next level. He's cooked and he needs support. Lots of it. Sad.

All these years later I still try hard not to think about that...
There’s an interview on YouTube with Beniot’s sister in law... recorded several years after it all went down. Basically her coming to terms with what happened and trying to understand it. It’s incredible stuff but really wants to make you cry

Koby was at Optus Stadium here in Perth,
for the Captain's Run.
We were all pleasantly surprised that he was able to make the flight over!
He was nice enough to sign my cap, and he signed a lot of stuff on the boundary,
very patient, and a really nice bloke.
