Has Richo lost the players?

Post: # 1734320Post Enrico_Misso »

It certainly looked like it in the first quarter.

Probably unfair to single out one player as there was plenty of examples, but Jack Steven looked disinterested tonight. He is the heartbeat of our side - chasing, running, tackling.
But tonight he wasn't running and chasing. Several times his opponent ran to space to take an uncontested mark with Jack jogging along twenty metres behind. It was as though he couldn't be bothered.

Clearly.

Look at our record since Rd 16 2017.

Horrendous.

That first quarter was beyond dreadful. Was it the worst for the season? Perhaps the worst I've witnessed in my lifetime. I was amazed we managed 1 goal out of it.

I actually thought JAck looked restricted / injured tonight. He appeared to be limping on occasions , so maybe he wasnt 100%

There was a moment late in the last quarter when Jack got the ball on the Dockland wing and put on the afterburners to run clear and then delivered a pass to Membrey.
So didn't look hampered by injury then?

Richo has definately overated his players. Our mids are the biggest issue. Ross, Steele, Dunstan, Armo, Koby are all good players but all the same. Slow mids that Richo thinks are contested ball beasts. They dont win enough contested ball it puts pressure on backline and gives forwards no chance. We can play 2 in the same team and replace the rest. We need mids with leg speed or can win a contested ball. Trade for some draft others. Get Miles from Tigers to start with a comtrsted ball mid thats easy to get. Find others, Cats found Kelly ! Try deveope our kids Gresh, Acres and Billings for rest of year as mids. If our footy department thinks our current mix of mids can get us to a top 4 finish they have no idea they cant even win us a game.

Re the OP yes

He lost them a long time ago. Doesn’t matter if they still like him, they clearly do not respect him and do not trust him / the gameplan

How else do you explain this mess??

I don’t have any respect for him either.
And has to be the most uninspiring individual to hear speak in the history of greater mankind!

Lost 'em half way through last year I reckon. As one of the worst AFL coaches in history, you don't generally have the confidence of players.

Lost them as far back as 2016. An empty tracksuit full of terminology. No guts to trust. Yep our list is not awesome, but where’s the development? I just don’t believe that out of all our young players there aren’t genuine quality players. Needs to be removed asap.

Word has it on the street that ....he will go if the the gold coast Suns beat us.....and that is on the cards. It is at Metricon. Trouble is, the new coach will have the same mess to work with but will have 11 matches to work out who to sack.

Even a win against the hapless Suns is meaningless and just prolongs the inevitable.

Richo would not have lost the young players yet. Battle , Marshall and co's development will be stalled, both handy types but need to be support acts for a couple of years not frontliners playing on guys like Rampe and Grundy and good backmen from top teams. Marshall didnt play against the swans but he has had it tough as well. There would be a few changes from the coach for this week I would imagine.

Who cares about the minor week to week tinkering.

He has had five years.
This is his squad.
His team.

The reality is Richo over rated a bunch of our older players and seems clueless at building a squad.
Way too many slow hacks in the midfield that he thinks are 'big bodied' but are actually just s***.

He is not up to speed with the modern game.
He is is five years behind.

Stevens and Weller are not AFL standard.
Brown too slow and should be back up only.
Lonie too slow. Too small. Too weak.
Savage plain s***.
Armo cooked.
The list goes on.

Richo did nothing about it.

Haha hate to say I told you so but where are the people who laughed at myself and others and said we knew nothing when we said he’d lost them last year?
Puffing their chests out because of the Richmond and West Coast losses papering over the cracks. Gee some people are blind.

I think I may be wanting GC to win if that’s the case!

We are nothings until we ditch Richo.

I forgot about Hughes.
But one thing I do remember is that when he got the Saints job it was one of those very rare moments on Saintsational that the entire board agreed it was a bad appointment.
Carlton had just won the spoon I think.

Our problem is we have so many incompetent corporate cockroaches in the cupboard we'll die if we tip them all out in 1 go
This has to be a managed cycle of redundancies a systematic clean out that ensures the clubs structures remain in place while bad eggs are constantly replaced with talent
When you think about it, that type of change has to come from the top - we need a big , financially secured, well connected individual with real corporate nous and mongrel to step in and take charge this individual is then not beholden to extending Richo so his sacking/removal follows shortly
The worst thing we can do then is leave long standing cockroaches in drawers to fester they then need to be culled

It may not be the hat he’s lost the players. The players say that they love him.

But just because the players like him doesn’t make him a good coach.

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

I think it's clear he's lost the players
Last night he was seen in the coaching box well after the game had ended , clearly not realising players had left the arena and with little idea where they were....
Apparently, assistants came into the coaching box after the game and found Alan on the floor looking under the benches whispering "players.......players....are you there?"
