Re: Midfielders who kick goals
Billings' kicking for goal borders substandard. Today 3 or 4 of his kicks were smothered by Port players. He has a long way to go but let's not get too concerned, it's only his 5th season in the AFL.Con Gorozidis wrote: ↑Sat 07 Jul 2018 9:20pm Gresham yes.

Re: Midfielders who kick goals
I’m a massive Luke Ball fan, but I do not consider him a goal kicking midfielder.
It magnifies our terrible history of goal kicking midfielders if Luke Ball is even in the conversation.

Gresh will be one, Billings will too... hes had a 30 touch 5 goal game not many players can do that.

That was a magnificent game, but not as a midfielder.Viscount Jeremiah wrote:Gresh will be one, Billings will too... hes had a 30 touch 5 goal game not many players can do that.
I would love to see him play in middle though.
I’ve said here before that I want to see a bounce with Steven, Billings and Acres.
Not every bounce, but to be really positive. It’s speed, skill and grunt.

Re: Midfielders who kick goals
My response to this observation is to ask if we can afford to have all of Armitage, Dunstan, Steele and Ross in the same side
Armo would be closing in on 100 goals from 160 odd games
By comparison Steven would be just over 100 from about the same number of games
Dunstan probably replicates the same strike rate on goal
But Steele is well down - more a handball and tackle player indicating a lack of pace so possessions under pressure or tackling because he does not have ball in hand
We used to have Gram kicking goals from half back - his leg speed and long kicking delivering
Who in our mids has leg speed and the ability to kick long?
We will hopefully see Acres and Freeman contributing to our midfield rotations - and Armitage who is a class act and a warrior blighted by injury over recent seasons has shown what we have always known he can when injury free
So the question is Dunstan, Ross and Steele
Ross replicates Steele in regards getting thru at goal
So there are some questions to be asked
And I reckon it goes to a problem we have
Plenty of grunt - but past that?
That same question is one I ask about our tail which is our Achilles heel
Players who can not take the game on, win it off their own boot and pick up 3 Brownlow votes in the process
So we continue the search

Re: Midfielders who kick goals
I look forward to Acres being selected again soon. It will give Richo another talented first rounder that he can ignore in favour of ordinary, turnover-prone grunts. I will then be able to ponder whether the St Kilda football club would be better coached by Alan Richardson or a potato.
Yeah nah pleasing positive

I’m excited by the return of Acres, he’s the X factor through the middle of the ground.vacuous space wrote: ↑Sat 07 Jul 2018 11:40pm I look forward to Acres being selected again soon. We should be signing him up to a long term deal as soon as we can.
