Captain Steele

Post: # 1752638Post saint6709 »

There has been a bit of conjecture around who might be up to taking the mantle from Geary - the way this guy has finished of the season - I would be pretty happy to see him leading the team onto the field

Agreed to some extent. How old is he though? 22? Maybe its too much responsibility right now.

At least put him in the leadersip group.

I prefer Seb Ross.

Reminds me of a young Lenny.. Tackles hard, nice kick and wins the hard ball... He is our shining light this year with Acres first half and Gresch year

Absolutely, based on the way he plays anyway.

I reckon he's got more gears too.

Anyone but Gearywould be great.

Ross is the obvious choice.
Would be happy with Steel as vice with Steven.

Steven acts like the captain!!

I've never really understood this opinion personally. Steven is a great player but he's always struck me as a bit shy, unassuming and someone that doesn't really relish a position of leadership.

I think Steele would be a great choice though. He plays his heart out every week for us.

Captain Shmaptain.

Why all the talk about changing captains when round 1 2019 is more than 6 months away

I love Jack Steele ( in fact he is my favourite player at the moment ) but it's not the right time to be changing.

There's good leadership from Gears and Armo when they're on the ground and unless we lose both of them plus Nathan Brown and Seb Ross and Jack Steven, then there's no issue with adequate and experienced leaders imo. The start of 2020 could be the time to change

Steele has been excellent these last weeks; a rare shining light.

But I’m not sure he’s the skipper yet.

No obvious choices yet, though.

Bit early. after the last seven games last year Dunstan stood out on field and as a potential captain, and continued on when reinstated in round 3 this year, but has had a very poor second half. Fingers crossed Steele goes on with it, and Dunstan recaptures his early motivation and form (likewise Sincs and more than a few others) - i have a feeling he has lost it and won't regain it under Richo.

+10000. To me - the only other real candidate is probably Ross and as far as I'm concerned, he's an accumulator of many meaningless possessions which then largely end-up hoisted high to a 2 on 1 option forward of the ball. Good gut runner but has poor skills and in a personality sense - is as boring and bland as the rest of the leadership in our club.

I'd rather Steele - he cracks in hard and looks set to get better; not stagnate. And he's got my must have trait - a bit of genuine C U Next Tuesday in him.

Players respond differently when they've got more than their own game to think about. Ross has been taking that leadership role around the ground all year. Steele hasn't had to think about anything but himself.

So you want someone who flaps their hands, yells at teammates or does a lot of fingerpointing

Rooy's retired. BJ not going to picked up, so that leaves your next preferred option of Hanners.
Yep. Exactly what we need

Am I the only one that thought that up until about 6 weeks ago Steele had been somewhat underwhelming this year.

Wasn’t he dropped a month or so in?

He's only just starting to come good.

Why burden him with the Captaincy?

leadership - and our perception of it at stkilda is a bit of a problem
I have not been overly concerned with Geary mainly because he is not embarrassing and can actually string a few legible words together - but clearly he is not the A grade player we want and expect of club captains
I love the way Steele is progressing with his game - but thats just it at this stage he is finding his way at a new club and his own game - Have never met him or seen him interviewed so cant really have an opinion of his character
Armo is a leader but clearly his best is behind him and his days are numbered
that said
That said could it be time to revisit the co-captain status ?
One each from the three zones - this way Geary could share the "burden" Steele could be groomed in the role and Armo gets a farewell acknowledgement for his service....
