Hannebery unlikely to play AFL in first month of season

Post: # 1778044Post shrodes »

From The Age:
https://outline.com/abDjWJ
The timeline for a return from injury for star St Kilda recruit Dan Hannebery has been pushed back, with the former Swan now unlikely to play at any level until after round two.

Hannebery has been struggling with soreness in both his hamstring and his calf.

Saints coach Alan Richardson confirmed that club medicos haven’t been able to get Hannebery training at full steam and will tread carefully with him.

“'Hanners' won’t train with the group,” Richardson confirmed on Tuesday morning.

Richo on SEN also said he’d need a few weeks at VFL for conditioning.

Absolute best case would be AFL level round 5 is my read.

Gut feel is it’s “Dan Hannebery 2 weeks” all over again, and his first Saints game will be around round 11

Stick a fork into 2019!

Absolutely farcical.
I said the day he was recruited he would miss more games than he plays.
In what universe is an injury prone Hannebery coming off two very ordinary injury interrupted seasons at 28 years of age worthy of a five year contract at $800,000 a year?
Seriously, this is beyond ridiculous.
The incompetence and stupidity at this football club is off the charts.
This was always going to be a massive mistake.
This is clearly a damning inditement on the competence of those responsible for this insanity.

Hannebery won’t be available until Round 4 at the nearest that’s the latest from my sources.
He has a 800k contract with few if any performance based clauses ie. he gets paid regardless if he plays. His hamstrings are very dodgy I know that from a few sources so Lethlean has opened himself up to an inside job between 2 old Xavier boys.

ST KILDA concedes it didn't know the full extent of prized recruit Dan Hannebery's struggles with his body when it traded for him.

I wonder if Sydney are shocked by this news? I somehow doubt it.

Tendonitis in hamstring infers chronic issues.

Wonder if Damien Barratt will come out with "the Swans are falling off their chairs at this news"

Gee I hope both you and Vaz don’t get a life ban and a free 2 week holiday in Syria for saying all this

incompetence and stupidity are strong words in themselves,
but I do NOT believe it's damning their characters or slanderous at all,
simply expressing an opinion, totally subjective.
If these 2 gents get banned, I'll leave and go off to BigFooty or something.

He was always a massive risk. I heard/read that we haven't built many performance-based clauses into his 5-year contract.

Is that correct? He could be a marvelous player for us but it looks as though we might have purchased a Daisy Thomas.

It would be nice to have a leadership group member, actually leading on the field.
Otherwise, he's effectively a very highly-paid midfield coach

If this year is not to be the total train wreck that it is currently heading towards, it will be because a bunch of our younger players step up and prove that they can be the players we all hope they can be...
Billings, Gresham, Pierce, Marshall, Lonie, Long, Clarke, Coffield, membrey, acres, Dunstan, Steele, Webster, Ross...i know i've missed a heap more...

These guys are ready, some have more games in them than others, but as a collective, we have enough games into guys that if good enough, we can still have a year of improvement...

Excepting of course that Daisy has actually played a couple of pretty good years of AFL footy in 17 & 18. And in a rubbish team ... all after he went to his club and offered to take a pay cut.

The deal was always an eyebrow raiser... especially considering that Hannebery’s key attributes are not the ones that we don’t already have in abundance

The decision to recruit Hannebery borders on corruption.

surely we have to win more than 4.5 games this year.
GC, Lions, Carlton, Melbourne (if we're lucky) and get 2 upset wins against the odds...
