Every club does this in the AFL at different points as does every side in every code around the globe. They don't always advertise it publically.

Many major corporations are the same in putting forward a so called mission statement.

Better to have a bold plan than no plan at all. Yep, it hasn't fully worked out for the Saints but you have to have a crack at it nonetheless.

I imagine Afghanistan has a similar Mission Statement in terms of their cricket team,
and that is to win a World Cup within 4 years, and be a highly respected and competitive
Test Team nation.

Yeahhhhhh

Be lucky to win another flag by 2066.

All they need to do is change the date to 2025 and the gullible will buy in.

Laughable at best, embarrassing in reality.

Mr Finnis plan is to reduce debt and achieve financial credibility. Mr Lethlean's plan is get better players in. Mr Richardson's plan is not apparent. The President is sphinx like, not sure what his plan is. I am hoping it is get us to a finals game in 24 months. We can use the old plan and just change dates and the names of the key people, those sort of aspirations are never old to a bottom 4 side.

More chance of Falcor flying over Marvel Stadium I’m afraid. Especially under this abortion of a regime.

Maybe it's time. Maybe its time for the Saints to throw it in and fold. After what you have posted, I really don't see any point in continuing any more. There are too many teams in the comp anyway. Why not call it a day.we will all be better off.

This is embarrassing.. these are meant to be goals and we have hit probably 1 of 8. Some of these may have been stretch goals or aspirational but 1 of 8? Pathetic

Better to have a bold plan than no plan at all. Yep, it hasn't fully worked out for the Saints but you have to have a crack at it nonetheless.
There's truth in what you say Ted, but Richmond advertised theirs publicly, and Gale was howled down by all and sundry for every one of them - and you know what? They met every single one of them.

We, on the other hand, have recruited poorly up until this year, our players have been poorly coached, poorly developed, and we've been 'gifted' boutique game opportunities all of which we have completely ballsed up from the outset, and we've malingered along under a punitive stadium deal.

All of our new management, right across all areas of the club, need to start getting these wrongs righted or we are really going to be up against it, if we aren't already.

Your friendly neighbourhood samurai.

Hasn't fully worked out is an understatement. They're on track to making a complete meal out of it.

The club's administrators and coaches are very well paid. While salary doesn't dictate output, they need to be doing more than just having a "crack at it."

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

Keep fighting the good fight Ted. The Saints certainly have their problems, but there have been some wonderful people, both players and officials who have worked incredibly hard for us. The armchair cynics will always be just that. Sad and cynical. Their choice to be that way.

Yeh, the same 'good fight that's in North Korea...a tidal wave of propaganda while everyone starves or is arrested.... you should go over there and work for the regime... they'd love your stories of unicorns and rainbows.

If after parting with my hard earned for membership, and sitting bottom 4 for close to a decade, I'm not somewhat 'cynical', I'd need some serious psychiatric attention, or at least a slight dose of electro shock therapy to kick start my long dead brain.

Identifying issues, such as terrible coaching and recruiting are essential to change, and change for the better.

Sticking your head in the sand while sucking down fairy bread with a big stupid smile on your face, repeating tripe like "everyone's doing a wonderful job!"....no thanks, not a fan

Is that what the club should be resting their laurels on? It’s okay that the club is deep in debt, not played finals since 2011, their rebuild a bust and can’t attract star players, because at least they have nice people working hard for them?

Robust debate about very real issues and problems, and some staff and players NOT performing is healthy, and initiates change.

Nah, don't buy your head in the sand group think cynicism buddy. As you may have read, I agree that the club has made some terrible mistakes over the years, but probably not as bad as the cheating by the Blues, and the drug use by the Dons, but yes some individuals have made some terrible errors...those people have pretty much all gone now. We have come off what was a great period of relative success for the club, with multiple GFs and Prelims from 2004-2012, and since then, we have really struggled with the transition from a great group of players to what is now a very young and inexperienced group. A very strong review at the end of last year established a new coaching group and also identified the need for some mature bodies, so some very good recruiting decisions were made at the end of last year. Unfortunately, our entire game plan for this year was thrown into chaos with the loss of three key senior players in Steven, Roberton, and Carlisle. We have been trying to stem the bleeding ever since. Cynical attitudes like yours only reinforce the desire to dump on the club, and therefore we have a continuing small membership base which also results in fewer sponsorship dollars. You should go down the club and speak to those who are working their butts off. Easy to criticize and not buy memberships like so many on this site. Much harder to be truly constructive.

p.s as a side note, as a young inexperienced team in the rebuilding phase (which has lasted too long), it should be noted that we have not been given kind draws over the last several years. This year is much more kind. I hope we take advantage of it. Note below.

St Kilda is no stranger to scheduling screwings. It had the AFL’s worst fixture in 2014, the worst in 2015, the 9th best in 2016, and the worst in 2017. 2018, it was the worst again, and that was also the worst fixture of any team in five years. (AFL Squiggle).
